UTHSC Summer 2015 Application

Published

I know it's early, but I wanted to start a thread for those of us planning to apply to UTHSC for the Summer 2015 session. I am hoping to go the Pacesetter route. I currently have a degree in Communications and I'm finally able to change careers and follow my dream. I'm a high-school teacher that will be resigning in June when the school year ends. I have a lot of prereqs already taken, but have a few to go, as well. I'm currently taking Intro to Pscyh online, will take Lifespan in May, and Intro to Soci and and A&P I & II over the summer.

If you are applying to start in this summer session too, please join in the discussion! We'll need to lean on each other as we go through this tough (but wonderful) process!

Anyone else out there?

Good Luck in advance!

Hey Courtney.cox! Congrats on your acceptance. . Thank you for your advice! All we can do is PRAY.. my states are nit as high as others but im praying i get in.. my science gpa 3.7 overall 3.6 nursing 3.7. 84 on hesi 850 ct I recieved my course evaluation a few weeks ago.. i wonder what is acceptance based on?

You have very competitive stats! and I think that's the magic question, nobody really knows what acceptance is based on besides what is stated on UTH's website. There were people that had way higher stats than I did that got denied, and some had lower stats than mine and got accepted. Like I said, no rhyme or reason. Just have faith in yourself.

Thank you!! Confidence is the key on top of faith

Thanks Courtney. Great advice. My New Year's resolution is to stop stalking this board. It is a frustrating process as the acceptance criteria are not clear and the website is not up to date. I am still waiting for my evaluation but I have heard that everyone does not receive one. I am trying to focus on faith and prayer and the fact that God is in control.

So I checked my mail today and opened my transcript eval ( I don't check my mail often). I was panicked when I saw that my eval didn't include any of the classes I've taken this year and left me like 8 hours short of the 40 required to apply.

I have all 60 hours, and I submitted my transcript with 50 of those hours completed before the Dec 1st deadline. The lady at the registrar assured me they would update my profile when my transcript from the fall 2014 semester was submitted. That was sent (the remaining 10 hours) on Dec 17.

The transcript eval I have was prepared on 11/17/14. Surely the transcript I submitted after that before Dec 1st will be included in the eval that who ever decides who gets accepted or not will see, right?

I'm kinda freaking out. I don't understand why they would evaluate your transcripts on 11/17 and ignore any classes you take and submit before the application deadline. :/

Bless your heart! This is my nightmare - I already have accepted that the acceptance criteria is not completely transparent and there is no value in trying to compare one statistic to another person's. My concern is that I at least get a fair shot at the program. I have not received an evaluation and will start pushing for one after return from the holidays. I feel that with a $60 application fee that it is only fair that I get and receive an evaluation. My previous degrees are from other states so the course numbering and names are not exactly the same as Texas schools. Thus - I am concerned that they will be overlooked. I have also seen many comments about mistakes on transcript evaluation and people not getting credit for scores. The good news is that they do seem to be able and willing to make corrections. I assume that they will make the changes and give you credit for the classes so that you can be considered for the summer semester.

So did they notify you that you did not meet the minimum hours for summer semester based on their evaluation? It seems that they may have left out one of our transcripts so it should be an easy fix.

So much for not stalking this board (or any of my diet resolutions either!). Thanks for your post since it gives me even more determination to get an evaluation completed. I only had 48 hours completed by December 1 so if they overlooked a few classes, I would also be overlooked.

Best of luck in getting this corrected- you have a lot of time and I'm sure it will work out.

Hey TX2015, I completely understand how you're feeling. This whole thing is so obscure, and with so much riding on it--our careers--it's extremely stressful.

I applied for the Fall 2014 semester back in Jan 2014. I had no idea what would transfer, etc. and was surprised to find out that in order to get the transcript eval I had to apply first. My thinking was, I'll just go down there and find out if it's worth me applying yet or whether I should take a few more classes first. As you know, not the case. Pay your $60 and wait.

I received the transcript eval for that application (Fall 2014) in February 2014. I had 32 hours of the required prereques. Also, they wanted my foreign transcripts. I received the letter saying I didn't accepted into the Fall 2014 semester in March 2014. The letter didn't say why. I just figured I was missing a transcript (the foreign one) and 8 hours short of the 40.

The transcript eval I received the other day was dated November 2014, and it was the same transcript eval I received before. I'm sure they will have updated everything and I'll receive a new one soon. I just freaked out when I first saw it and couldn't think straight.

I'm sure your stuff will transfer. I too have no idea what their criteria for acceptance is. I imagine they give greater weight to classes taken at 4 year colleges than at community colleges.

My worry is that my A&P, Micro, Math, etc. were taken over 7 years ago. I don't know if that counts against me. I did well on the HESI. Although, I made an 830 on CT and completely forgot to do the learning styles thing! I'm hoping that having been an LVN for the last 7 years and currently working in the med center will count in my favor. I'm not sure, though, as maybe they only want young, fresh out of college kinda students.

Sounds like you've done your research, though. Good luck to you, too!

Are you going to spend another $60 and put in an application for the Fall 2015 semester? The deadline is Jan 15th. I figured I would. Why not?

To those who are reapplying for Summer 2015, have you received an updated course evaluation yet or is it too early?

@NaturallyMe I have reapplied as well and received an updated course evaluation right before Christmas. I was waitlisted for Spring 2015

If you don't mind me asking, what were your stats? (HESI scores and GPA)... Thanks!

Hi everyone! I applied for the BSN Pacesetter program as well for the Summer 2015 semester. I turned in a complete application (all required docs included) back in August and I haven't heard back from the school yet. They didn't send me a transcript eval either. Do you know when they're supposed to start sending out admission notifications? Thanks so much! I've been checking the UTH portal several times a day for the last few weeks!

Welcome cdtiu. I also applied in August but I did not take HESI until November. My HESI scores have still not been posted and I have not received a transcript evaluation.

I wish UTHSC would use the NursingCAS application process. At least the we would know that the information had been received and transcripts were verified.

The whole process is frustrating and seems somewhat random. I am trying to relax and stop stressing over it. I think the applicants last fall started hearing back about acceptance in late February. We have some time to wait. :)
