  1. I just took the NCLEX and honestly way overprepared for it - I wish I had the study time back. Don't postpone - seriously - I wish I had three weeks of my life back!!
  2. Congrats all! I was invited for Cardiology dept interview. Although it will be super expensive - I hope to be able to travel to Nashville for the interview. Skype is an option but I think it is a disadvantage - especially since I won't be able to see the unit.
  3. Thanks so much for your detailed response. I am happy to hear of a program that is well organized and welcoming. I plan to apply - pray - and see what happens. All the best in your nursing career.
  4. I'm thinking of applying from out of state to be closer to family. Newbie nurse - how is the nurse residency program? Is it what you expected? any surprises? What area are you in?
  5. Thanks so much for a thoughtful and practical post. I am HSP and a nursing student. I was a bit worried about whether my personality would be a problem in this field. One of the beauties of nursing is the variety of roles and jobs that a nurse can perform. I wonder if there are the "best" areas for HSP nurses. I can envision that trauma, ED, etc would be most difficult. I hope to hear practical stories from others.
  6. Good news for an anxious person on the wait list - I am declining my acceptance to UTHSC. The school is fantastic and the program is impressive but I have a full ride scholarship to UTMB that I just can't pass up. Good luck to all - I wish you the best in your program. Who knows? Perhaps we will work together in the future
  7. Before I started on this journey - I took all of my transcripts and reviewed them with someone from SON to make sure that I knew exactly how my classes would transfer since the course names/numbers were different from Texas schools. I petitioned to get at least some history credit for my three semesters of World History - but no luck. Maybe you are OK since your transcripts should have been cleared and reviewed by Nursing CAS. I would still double check. Worst case - they tell you that you need Texas government and you take it this summer. This is better than finding out in August and then running risk of not getting into school. I personally think this isn't necessary - especially if you already have a degree - but they seem to be pretty serious about this "Texas Core" requirement. Good luck - I hope you don't have to take it.
  8. @chec86 - I earned a BS and an MBA degree from another state but I was told that I had to take Texas government .... which of course - was not required in another state. I would suggest that you confirm that you have all of your prerequisites so that you don't have an unpleasant surprise in August. I'm finishing my last prerequisite now - US History part II. My college required 3 semesters of world history which were not accepted as a substitute. The good news is that these are not difficult classes. Just more time and money! Good luck to all those waiting - I am hoping for you all to join us!
  9. Yes - my humanities courses did count for philosophy .....but they said it was only because I already had a BS degree from another state. If you have a degree - you should be fine. If not - I would still push to see if they will accept it. They had overlooked several of my classes in the transcript evaluation and quickly corrected them after I pointed out the mistakes. Good luck!
  10. Oh my gosh! How exciting for you! Congrats. Today was graduation so I'm sure no one was in the office. You'll catch someone on Monday. Good luck on your interview!
  11. @jbau89 - congrats! Not to be a total hypocrite or waffler - but my previous post on spending time with my son was based on my job in corporate America that requires travel and deadlines and a lot of time away from home - not a nursing job or nursing school. You know that school will take a lot of time - but you are working towards a great goal and have an opportunity that you have worked hard for. School is only 16 months and if you have a support system - you can do it! Best of luck in your decision process.
  12. @jbau89 - as the mother of one son who worked crazy hours during his childhood - I applaud your decision. Your child is young for a short time- those years fly by and you can't get them back. Enjoy your program and your son. I'm sure you will be a great nurse and will have a chance to attend UTHSC later.
  13. @ hiyou - Congrats on your acceptance! I did get an email from UTMB with a guide for next steps (I think before my status even changed). A few days later, I received a packet in the mail with more information, checklist for immunizations, steps for background check, and timing for all. The checklist and information is nicely detailed with due dates and links to more information. Join the Facebook group if you are a Facebook user (I hate Facebook but made a profile just for this).
  14. Yes - I applied. The deadline is tomorrow for anyone who has been invited. It sounds like a great opportunity but only a few are selected. Good luck to all.
  15. Definitely apply again. I was denied for summer and accepted for fall...with the same exact application! I think UTHSC may see how much you want this. If this is your dream apply again. I know it is frustrated to see the " denied" status but this just makes the acceptance that much sweeter. Good luck to all.
