Anyone????? besides me waiting on that interview letter for nursing school to come already?????????????? :plsebeg: Have you completed all your pre-reqs? what cha got left? care to share your GPA?
I am in the works of completeing my last pre-req...Physiology sooo far its been my fav. class its better than anatomy. GPA 3.5 microbio and physio not inlcuded. (I wish I didn't suck at comp. 1 I got a C in that class you guys!)
I emailed Debbie (she's the head hancho of the program. They are very good at replying like a minute later to your emails :typing and also very good at answering all phone calls) I asked about how I should go about registering for the TEAS entrance exam...she said on the same day you do your interview you also take the TEAS exam!
WHAT??? is what I thought to myself sooo...I basically have till the month of April to study for that sucker!
AznPlayR99, why are you doggin me? I know where to find you...... jk. And I dont know what your talking about, I have all A's, I have plenty to do, and I have learned more this semester than I learned in 4 years of college. Yes, the majority of 1st semester is the basics, but I didnt know the basics before I started....some people do i guess?
LOL...ya'll are too funny. Do ya'll know each other in person? Thanks for the help...I like finding out about what current students say...and so far I like what ya'll are telling me and I find it rewarding that they require you to have ATI practice materials with each class. So do you two know anything about TAMUCC?
Well to be honest with you, I dont really know that much. I know that for TAMUCC you have to take Health Transitions which is a pathophysiology class. I really havnt heard much else. Did you get accepted to the nursing school already or just to the college? Is this for fall 09? I mainly did not want to go there because I would rather be in SA than CC. I dont know much about the college station school, other than that it is new. But I do know someone who used to work at the hospital where you would be doing your clinicals (most likely) who loved it. College station is not a bad place to be.
About the PDA, you are allowed to use your PDA in clinical, but you not allowed to use the phone function while on the unit. HOWEVER, it depends on your clinical instructor, but i have never heard of anyone that wanted to use their pda that couldnt. PLUS, the school has free nursing software for your PDA. It is great, they tell everyone to but one before you graduate so you can get your free software b/c that stuff can be expensive. Here is the link if you want to look at what they have, just clink on the kind of device you have: http://www.library.uthscsa.edu/find/pdas.cfm
You can take as many notes as your want, pda or paper. There is big controversy right now in the field about computerized charting, saying that it takes away from patient care. So, you are typically not supposed to take notes or do charting while in the patient's room. Unless, they are vitals that need to be written down or something. The stuff that you are allowed to bring totally depends on if the location has a place for you to put your stuff. I was at St. Lukes, and there wasnt any place for a purse or anything. But you were always aloud to bring your drug book, or any other text you want.
Hope this helps.
Thanks rfs! Yea..I go to Texas A&M in College Station now..and I do love the community..the hospitals are awesome..but I'm kinda if-ee about the BSN program because I would be in the second class of the program..and they don't have NCLEX rates yet..I'm glad to hear that you get the software for free at UTHSCSA..thats a bonus I figure... Yea.. I've been accepted to seven nursing programs for Fall 2009 (I'm graduating for A&M with a degree in Allied Health) .. so its just nerve racking to decide which program is the best for me..I have it narrowed down to three now (not including TWU anymore)...I know each program has its cons and pros...and everyone is different..but I'm really liking how UTHSCSA sounds..especially with you saying the professors are willing to help you through these courses. Thank you for your help. I hope to meet you soon (if I get accepted for UTHSCSA)...
Nice 7 schools i wish that was me haha
Me and RFS are enemies! lol j/k see you in class tomorrow now we have something to talk about haha! (also i wasnt referring to you not being an A student just i know some people that are happy with their C's it annoys me lol)
I don't really see people use PDA's at all so don't buy one if you are in the process of trying to save money you wont really need it, but if you already have one more power to you i suppose :-p Most stuff will come from the books but i suppose a PDA = a ton of less weight you have to carry! (Sorry not sure if RFS has one and uses it...god i know her name its weird just using rfs haha)

Pshh dont trust Rfs! haha she doesnt know what she is talking about! J/k!!
IMO every school has their own downfalls. But as I was talking to students even from other programs you get what you put into it. Most if not all students feel like they go by first semester learning nothing is what i heard from 3rd semester students....I know students in our class that don't do jack and sit around passing with C's. I know students with A's that complain about not doing enough... but i figure it all comes in time... (just to let you know im in the latter haha)
On the first page of this thread (UTHSCSA-hopeful) put up what our schedule looks like for our first semester.... so we basically go to class 4 days a week and have one day off... I think in the fall they are doing away with that (sue me if im wrong i heard it in a rumor going around)
GOD i should be studying for my physical assessment but im not lol...
