Anyone????? besides me waiting on that interview letter for nursing school to come already?????????????? :plsebeg: Have you completed all your pre-reqs? what cha got left? care to share your GPA?

I am in the works of completeing my last pre-req...Physiology sooo far its been my fav. class its better than anatomy. GPA 3.5 microbio and physio not inlcuded. (I wish I didn't suck at comp. 1 I got a C in that class you guys!)

I emailed Debbie (she's the head hancho of the program. They are very good at replying like a minute later to your emails :typing and also very good at answering all phone calls) I asked about how I should go about registering for the TEAS entrance exam...she said on the same day you do your interview you also take the TEAS exam!

WHAT??? :banghead: is what I thought to myself sooo...I basically have till the month of April to study for that sucker!

I just started my first semester at UTHSCSA purple :-p

Umm the Teas is not that bad. Have you ever taken the NET? Its somewhat similar maybe a little more difficult b/c of the random questions about geology... (ugh those) and yes when you sign up for it you take the test the same day as the interview so either before or after the interview and you instantly know your score after you take it..

My GPA = 3.3 overall... did not calculate my science GPA its probably higher..

TEAS score = 86

Also they are pretty good about the app process... everything was done fast compared to UTMB....

No, I have not heard nor taken NET...there are geology questions in the TEAS huh? hehe that's silly, but good to know.

:yeah: CONGRATULATIONS ON GET'N IN!!!!! :yeah: thats a huge accomplishment, because the whole waiting and guessing on whether youre in or not is definitely a stressful one :wtosts:.

How's your first semester going for you? what does it entail? if you dont mind me asking of course! hehe...awesome GPA and TEAS score by the way hence the reason why you are a nursing student now

Well I can't speak for everyone but, I'll tell you what I think and what 2nd or 3rd semester students tell me..

I for one think they hype up the hard part for the first semester when they talk about it and then baby us into things b/c our first tests were pretty much simple.. Maybe that will change.. So far we bought books but other than reading for skills lab... not much reading has to be done other than looking at the class notes they provide online and the notes you obtain in class on your own.. I also felt I haven't really learned anything useful as of yet...

From 2nd and 3rd semester students I hear some dont read at all and only study the notes until they get into their 3rd semester (which is your hardest semester). They told us that you will feel as if you learned nothing first semester and pretty much what i just told you before.

I probably have more to say but im going to eat lunch :-p and semi study pharmacology haha

GL getting in!

Hi,

Just wanted to say that I'm in my first semester at UTHSCSA also (hmm guess I should probably start thinking up a new username since I'm in the program now). About the TEAS test, it isn't that bad at all. A lot of people get the study guide and they found that helpful. I just took the online sample test and used that as a guide. It has English/grammar/spelling, math, and science portions.

As far as what the first semester looks like for us:

Monday and Friday we have class from 8-10. Then we have a skills lab that's 2 hours. You are assigned 10-12, 1-3, or 3-5 on Monday and Friday. Some people have the same time both Mon and Fri and others have say 10-12 on Mon and 3-5 on Fri. But, either way on Mon and Fri you'll be in one of those three skills labs that are 2 hours each.

Then you have your clinical days where you go to an actual hospital which are 6:30 to 3:30 on Tues, Wed, or Sat.

Thursday we have class from 9-12. Then some have another class from 1 to 3. The other half that doesn't have that 1-3 class are the ones that take that class online.

We have one day off during the week depending on when your clinicals are. For example, if you have clinicals on Tues then you'll have Wed off. If clinicals are Wed then you have Tues off. Sat clinicals means you have both Tues and Wed off.

On your clinical skills labs days you'll wear scrubs of any color/pattern you want. On your one clinical day you'll wear an all-white uniform (yeah, I know it's a bummer). The uniform is supposed to change to black and orange but I think that won't take effect until Spring 2010 (correct me if I'm wrong someone) The other school day you can wear jeans or whatever you want.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised with how nice all the students and faculty are at UTHSCSA.

The schedule may change when you start but our schedule can at least give you an idea of what to expect. Good luck getting in. We'd love to see you in the fall. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hi, my name is angie and I'm currently doing my prereq to finish phase I of the program. I was wondering if you could share a little about the different age ranges of the students in the program. I'm hoping to attend UTHSCSA in the Fall of 2010 and was just wondering.

I'm not really sure of everyone's age. It seems like most of the students are in their 20s. But there are a few in their 30s and 40s. There are probably some in their 50s as well but I am only familiar with people in the first semester. Not so familiar with the other people in 2nd to 4th semesters. Whatever your age, you'll fit right in so don't let it worry you.

Me too! I'm wating for that interview letter for Fall 2009 and it's driving me nuts! I have the study guid for the TEAS, but my Chem II class is keeping me pretty busy, so I haven't really studied yet. I thought I might have messed up my chances to get in because I recently realized I needed to get my Hep B series. I got the first shot on Feb. 20, the next will be March 20, with the last one 6 months after the first...yikes, that puts the third one on Aug. 20! I was so worried about it I called them today and asked. They are really good about getting back to you! They told me that the last shot could be given 4 to 6 months after the first. Yeah!!! So I can get the last one in July and be just fine for registering! Now all I have to do is get in! Any idea when those interview letters are going to be mailed out?

YAY!! I'm glad to finally have someone close to my shoes going through the same process as me!! hehe

Yeah, I just convinced myself to go out and purchase the TEAS study guide, did you get yours online? can you find one like at a Barnes n noble or any book stores of that sort? how much was it?

Yeah, get'n those immunizations up to date and what not definitely sneaks up on you, I just got a titer done last month for the chicken pox...soo Im clear and ready immunizations wise, THANK GOD!!

Good Luck on your chem 2 class!! Aim for that A!

waiting and waiting is all we can do up to this point! BOOOOO!

Hmm...

I would recommend you getting the one offered by the TEAS people. As they are making the test and know what will be on it :-p.

I bought two from barnes and nobles.. One I felt went into math that wasnt even needed and the other one was ok.. But none had those geology questions that the TEAS book had.

I ordered the TEAS study guide online from http://www.atitesting.com/global/students/teas-study-manual.aspx. It was $30 and got here pretty fast. It has a ton of practice questions with answers. I just need to find time to study it!

I ended up having to have a titer drawn for all the required immunizations, since my shot record is missing in action! From that it showed all I needed was the Hep B series. I also need to get my CPR certification too, but I may do that during the summer.

Let the waiting game continue!

Hey thanks alot for answering. Yeah, I'm in my early 30's and decided to go into nursing. I currently finishing up my associates, and will finish the rest of my needed courses (microbio, chem etc.) then apply. again thanks
