UTHSC Houston - Summer 2016 Applicants

Published

Hey everyone!

I couldn't find a thread for Summer 2016 that was active so I'm starting one here! I am also an applicant for Fall 2016 but I'm applying for both because the deadlines are close and I really want to go here!!

So far I'm taking courses over the summer right now and going to finish my prerequisites this fall. I JUST finished the HESI exam today!!! Hope to hear from all of you soon

I called student services and questioned about applicants being notified by email about acceptance into the nursing program this summer. The person I talked to said that NO such emails have went out for this summer and that acceptance letters will not go out until April 15. Can anyone explain this? Am I being lied to and if so, for what reason?

They probably told you April 15th because that is what's stated on their website as well as in their info sessions. It doesn't make any sense for them to wait until then for summer term acceptances due to the fact that the students have to get shots, records, school supplies, etc. and attend orientation and such before term starts (which is May 22nd if I read correctly on their academic calendar). That would leave only roughly 1 month for those students vs all summer for Fall 2016 students and supposedly both terms are notified on April 15th. There have been a few people on this thread say they got emails and there's a Facebook page for that term...kinda hard to believe that they'd lie about that. I don't know what the purpose of misinformation is for...rather unnecessary.

I can agree with you as well. No it does not make sense for them to wait until April 15 because the start of school is 5 weeks away. I understand that the webpage says April 15, but why lie and say no information has gone out to some people saying they have been accepted. What advantage is this?

To those that have been accepted, what did your email say exactly? What was the subject line, etc?

I'm sorry bearfur, I know how you feel. I agree, it is so so frustrating. The past 2 years I have been taken 15 hours per semester, minis, and summer classes and made As in every single class. I studied super hard for my HESI and made a 95 and a 980 on my CT. I just don't understand.

I'm really sorry for everyone who is feeling so frustrated and wish I could help. I was declined for spring and it was miserable. Someone on that forum mentioned how much it helped them to create backup plans and I think that was what helped me most. I looked into TWU and took the TEAS so that I had two schools on my radar instead of one. I also made plans to teach summer school (I'm a teacher and the pay for my school is really good) so that I had things on the horizon I was excited about.

One of my students also gave me some amazing clarity in the midst of the worst of it, too. Her family is in extreme poverty and she brought some of her Halloween candy to school and gave it to me. She said she knew I was feeling sad and wanted to help. I'm just sharing this to say that if you can focus on the things in your life that are positive and uplifting right now, it will help. That little girl made me realize how many beautiful moments there are in my life.

Sorry if this is cheesy, but hope it helps someone.

Not cheesy at all. Great story! Funny you are a teacher. I am too, although I'm retiring with full TRS benefits! That's positive as I've looked forward to another career. I am burned out after 29 years in the classroom.

I I have also applied to TWU, and I'm sure I'll get in there but UT was my first choice.

Hello, I was wondering if you could help me. I just found out I was accepted today. I was supposed to pay the $200 deposit 3 days ago. So, basically I'm asking is there any hope left?

You're going to have to contact the school directly, and explain to them your situation. I'm not sure what they will say, but there is a waiting list and I'm sure they're all waiting for a chance. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hello everyone! I have been following along with this forum for awhile. I was accepted to UTMB nursing school (which is another great nursing school) for this summer 2016 and I just wanted to share my experience. I know for UTMB we had to do interviews which went very smoothly. My advice to some of you is to take the TEAS as well to have more choices. At first, I did not want to take the TEAS because I knew how hard the test was going to be. However, I did very well on the TEAS (I scored above advanced level on the TEAS). The TEAS is not difficult at all. I would really just study hard for it and buy the ATI TEAS study manual and the ATI practice test. I did apply for Spring 2016 for UTHSCH and I got waitlisted and I decided not to apply again for the summer since I already got my acceptance letter for UTMB. The way UTHSCH accepts students into their school is really confusing. Most schools have a point system. However, I am glad that I decided to take the TEAS because I had more options for nursing schools and I ended up getting accepted to three nursing schools and I applied to four nursing schools in total.

Hey guys,

I am anxiously waiting right along with you all. I do not understand the admitting process. From what i can tell, it is definitely a crapshoot. Don't let this discourage you though!

I, like a lot of you went back and forth on bringing myself together to take the TEAS. I definitely did not prepare for it nearly as well as I did for the HESI. I signed up last minuet, and only studied for about a week. My attitude was to just go in and do my best, just to see how i do. I will have to say the test was harder than the HESI, however it was not nearly as hard as what i expected. I did fairly well (81%). I am so glad i went ahead and took it, because it really does open many other doors (TWU, UTMB, UH, etc.). Don't let other posters on this site scare you away from taking the TEAS. I promise you, it really is not that bad. I took the test without taking microbiology. The science is basic basic basic knowledge, and no physics.

I really hope we hear back soon. I have over analyzed previous threads from past semesters, it is driving me crazy!

I have to agree with ckcox with both UTHSCH being a crapshoot and the TEAS. The TEAS is definitely a tougher test than the HESI. I think if you do well on the HESI you shouldn't do much different than your performance on the TEAS. I took both and scores a 94 overall on the HESI and a 92 overall on the TEAS. Taking both tests will leave you with more options. I am also applying for TWU and feel pretty confident that I'll get in since they evaluate applications on a point basis. Have a back-up plan since UTHSCH definitely likes to keep things secretive regarding how you rate as a applicant for admissions.

I also got accepted. After you accept the offer did myUTH change the check back to the triangle and add the Nursing admissions holds?
