Hi,
I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.
Thanks for your comments
Which section did you fail? I recently took it and did well except for vocabulary all I would say is buy the evolve book study it, and for critical thinking questions I've found some great triage books that helped with that I'mRetaking it an August as well, I don't know if you know but how do you get the scores sent to the school? I took the test June 29th and on my to do list it still says they haven't received the scores and it also say they were due june 8th I'm wondering if I missed the deadline but then it also says the transcripts are due December 31st 2011 which I know can't be right! I'm wondering if anyone else is having this same problem? And yes I checked to makeSure I applied for spring 2013 so I'm so confused :/
I really hope the deadline to send in the test score for the HESI isn't June 8th. I know this is horrible but I failed the Anatomy & Physiology portion and I didn't do so hot on the vocabulary either. I haven't started my application cause I want to be confident in my HESI score before doing an actual application. I redo my HESI in August. As for the transcripts, they probably didn't update the information but I think everything is due September 1st.
My UTH says my transcripts were due in 2007 and my HESI is due at the end of July. So yea, that cannot be right!
Like I said, I sent my transcripts a while ago and they still haven't changed my to do list so Im going to go ahead and call first thing Monday morning.
I have not taken the HESI, I took the TEAS and got a pretty good score. Did anyone here take both? what did yall think? any suggestions when it comes to what books to use for the HESI? comparison between HESI and TEAS V?
Good Luck everyone!
Hello guys, I took my hesi and my info is as follows:
Hesi
Reading - 90
Math - 96
Grammar - 92
A&P - 92
Vocab - 90
Critical thinking - 770
Prereq gpa - 3.7
Science gpa - 3.3
Any chance of me getting in? Tessthebest - could you please share the books that helped you on critical thinking? Thanks. I'm so nervous, please help!
Hi everyone!I am new to the site. Reading all of you guys comments are kind of scary and make me really nervous... I plan on applying for the Sring 2013 session and Accelerated Summer 2013 session. I had a couple of friends who did the UT program and they made it sound like it was so simple to get in... I wanted to know if it is ok to start your application even if you are still taking pre-reqs and haven't taken your HESI. I still have A&P I and II to take along with microbiology.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
I just applied and paid my $30.00app fee, I haven't taken my Hesi yet or sent in my transcripts. I read somewhere (following older threads) that it is better to apply so that they get you in the system and set up with a log in and password. From there you will see what the school needs to "Complete" your application. As you send those things in and call the school to confirm they received them in the right place, they will come off of your "to-do" list. Then it's a waiting game.
I foolishly applied last semester without having 8hrs of the science required, so I knew I wasn't getting in but it helped me answer a lot of questions I would have had this go round. I got my denial letter in the mail and THEN a month or two later my transcript eval came in. I did an 87% overall on my Hesi which is why I am taking a second shot at it. I didnt study the 1st go round and again was just trying my luck.
I love allnurses having this for us because it is so much relief to be able to relate and have questions answered. :) Hope this helps you and others!! GOOD LUCK!
ps. I will be updating on here when I send my transcripts in (my totals have changed since last semester, for the better), and hopefully I get above and 850 on critical thinking, last time I got an 830. :)
Hi dsjt3. Yes the deadline is September 1st. I would agree not to put all your eggs in one basket not saying you would not get accepted, but it is better to have more choices in the event something does not go your way. Are you Taking KINE as an elective or as a required course(just curious), and have you yet to take the HESI. Good luck to you this application pool
Sorry it took me so long to respond. I have an AS and AA degree (took long enough to figure out what I wanted my Bachelor's in lol) So that being said I have plenty of "electives" to fill the 5 credit hours needed for UTHSC. I would hope that they choose the A's and I am not even sure how they look at the extra credit, but since I have so many...I pray they take the As into count for the overall prereq GPA. I have some Bs and certainly dont want those used as electives... I took KINE 1111.
Going to take the HESI soon, just need to register for it. I took it this past December to apply for the Fall 2012 (didn't have my 8hrs of science, but was just getting a feel for the routine). :)
Also, every college course I have ever taken has been with Lone Star. My GPA's are:
Academic - 3.57 (all coursework, not just pre-reqs)this is on my transcript from Lone Star.
Science - 4.0 (A&P I, II, and Chem)
Pre-req - 3.7
I have taken every class needed for UT, except Biol 2420/Micro Bio, this is my only class left and I am registered to take that this fall, of course if accepted I will send my transcript into them asap. My transcript shows that I am enrolled for it, just shows no grade.
Here's to praying I do GREAT on my HESI!!! Even though they give the "minimum requirement" 2.75GPA, or 75% Hesi, they are looking for well above that, judging from those who got in previous semesters...
I called and they have received my transcripts. YAY! They told me once they are evaluated MyUTH will show my GPA. Until then I really don't know my GPA because every school calculates it differently.
I havent taken the HESI yet either but Im trying to study as much as I can. What did you guys use to study for the critical thinking part?
Thanks!
Tpluta

Uthsc is not that great about updating your to-do list. If you sent them in over 2 weeks ago go ahead and call the registrars office and have them check for you. That's what I've had to do the last couple of times. Just say that you sent them in a few weeks ago but your to-do list hasn't updated.
