UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

Hi Guys!

Is anyone going to the info session tomorrow or in August? do we just show up? or do we need to register?

I hope everyone is doing great and as excited as i am that the fall semester is finally ending. Three more finals this week and ready to move on to the the last semester before hopefully starting nursing school in the spring.

I actually started my application but i am unsure if i should wait until i take my Hesi Exam to submit it.

The date i am registered to take the test is June 29.

I've heard both answers, and thought i'd see if any one knew?

Also i've heard really great reviews about the Hesi exam review created by evolve,

if anyone has already taken the Hesi exam is their anything else you might recommend studying

I just want to be as prepared for the test as i possibly can be.

Thanks Tess

Has anyone taken the hesi and the teas for any other school? I want to know how much harder one is compared to the other...

I have yet to take either exam but I've heard split reviews. Some say HESI is easier the others say the TEAS is

I took both of them last December. Personally I thought the TEAS was more of a challenge. The science section was all over the place! By that I mean it covered sciences I did not studied so much (physical geology, geography, and

Meteorology). I can't really complain about the rest of the test. It's all basic material one should know straight from high school. But if you're like me and have been out of high school for X amount of years, I'd review the grammar and vocabulary section from study guides thoroughly .

As for the science of the HESI, I only took the anatomy and physiology (varies from nursing program which science sections are required to take). I believe the section had 30 or 33 questions covering both semesters. I would recommend studying old tests, notes, and lab manuals. Try to recognize the important concepts and parts of each system. The other sections of the exam aren't bad at all. Know your conversions, proper and improper fractions, and decimals for the math section.

Make sure you give yourself adequate time to study a month or two prior to the exam date. Good luck for those you who will be taking either of them!

Hello everyone, I am new to this site, and just wanted some information. My first degree is in computer engineering and now I'm going for nursing. I have finished all of my prereqs for UT, and now planning to take my hesi in the last week of June. Could someone please guide me on the hesi test. What will the math section contain? Many word problems? What about the vocabulary section? How do I study for vocabulary? If there is anyone who is taking the hesi soon, we should all meet up and have a study group for the hesi. Please let me know. Thanks

Jay

Hi Guys!

Is anyone going to the info session tomorrow or in August? do we just show up? or do we need to r+egister?

Not sure if you went to this information session or not last week, but I went and it was very informative!

Hello 2013 hopefuls,

I need feedback on my gpa and applying subjects. My prerequisites gpa is a 3.64 and my gpa for science is 3.67. I have not taken Intro to Sociology, Growth and Development, Clinical Microbiology, and Nutrition. I will take them in the Fall of 2012. I am applying for Spring 2013. I do not know if my GPA is promising to get in and I'm wondering if you guys think it is promising or not considering that I have not taken some of the prerequisite courses yet. I am going to take the HESI this Friday and I am hoping to score well on all the subjects. Does anyone know if the HESI is a major component for applying? Also, is it true that they have eliminated the interview process? Do we need a resume or letter of recommendation? It would be great if anyone can answer my questions. Thank you!

I went to the information session last week. As mentioned by pRaYeRfuL, it is hard to know exactly what they are looking for!! They definitely look at your HESI scores and your GPA on your prereqs. They mentioned that they look at your overall transcript as well, but also understand that at times during undergrad that some do not do so well due to certain things..... But they take everything into consideration, but your prereqs and HESI carry the most weight. I think it kind of sucks that they have done away with the interview process. I'm not sure how they gauge a good candidate just by looking at transcripts and HESI scores... There are other programs that are not as well known, but are definitely harder to get into because they look at the person overall and want to see stuff such as recommendation letters, proof of volunteer work, etc. I think anything goes to be honest....

Thanks for the info!

Do you know their policy for repeated courses? Do they average both grades when they calculate gpa or do they take the most rcent/ highest?

They take the highest

Hey everyone! I just wanted to write and update to my previous post (page 3 or 4) pertaining to overall GPA. I got a call telling me I was accepted into the Fall 2012 program, even though I received a denial letter and was never told I was on any waitlist. I asked the person that called and offered me a spot about the criteria of having 3.5+ on overall GPA and she told me that I had received misinformation from the other person in the admissions office that I talked to. Just wanted to share that info with the rest of you guys so that no one thought that they had no chance of getting in because their overall GPA from your previous degree wasn't that high (like I did up until I got in). Good luck everyone!
