UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

I agree with you 100%. A degree from A&M or any university as a matter of fact is an achievement! I like you worked the entire time while getting my degree from A&M and I'm working now full time while doing my pre-reqs which at times is very hard especially when you are involved in the international stuff! It definitely doesn't make much sense to weigh non-related classes toward admissions.... the pre-reqs should be the classes that are looked at.

Yea, I do find that pretty ridiculous as well... that you would have to have a GPA that high in order to be admitted to the program. I can honestly say, that my GPA from A&M was a little bit lower than yours because of some personal issues that I dealt with and I do take full responsibility for that but at the same time I would agree that I don't think those with degrees should be penalized or held to higher standard compared to the other stuff.

I hope everyone is doing great and as excited as i am that the fall semester is finally ending. Three more finals this week and ready to move on to the the last semester before hopefully starting nursing school in the spring.

I actually started my application but i am unsure if i should wait until i take my Hesi Exam to submit it.

The date i am registered to take the test is June 29.

I've heard both answers, and thought i'd see if any one knew?

Also i've heard really great reviews about the Hesi exam review created by evolve,

if anyone has already taken the Hesi exam is their anything else you might recommend studying

I just want to be as prepared for the test as i possibly can be.

Thanks Tess

I grabbed the review guide from Evolve. I have just started going through it and it seems to be pretty good. The other review guide that I grabbed is the HESI A2 Study Guide by Mometrix. Not sure what else to study.... Hope that helps!

Randomly stumbled upon this while trying to find some info on some grad schools. I got in a year ago with 6 drops and the selection process seemed pretty random. All sorts of various demographics and ranges for scores. Don't fret too much and just give applying a shot. It could be worse, there's someone I know in the program who took 4 times before she finally got in so don't give up.

Hello 2013 hopefuls,

I need feedback on my gpa and applying subjects. My prerequisites gpa is a 3.64 and my gpa for science is 3.67. I have not taken Intro to Sociology, Growth and Development, Clinical Microbiology, and Nutrition. I will take them in the Fall of 2012. I am applying for Spring 2013. I do not know if my GPA is promising to get in and I'm wondering if you guys think it is promising or not considering that I have not taken some of the prerequisite courses yet. I am going to take the HESI this Friday and I am hoping to score well on all the subjects. Does anyone know if the HESI is a major component for applying? Also, is it true that they have eliminated the interview process? Do we need a resume or letter of recommendation? It would be great if anyone can answer my questions. Thank you!

With your gpa I def think you have a shot. It all seems so random so just give it a go you may regret it if you don't try. At one of th info session I remember them saying the HESI is important but not sure how important... we were told at least 830 crit thinking... and at least 84 on a and p section but I have seen some who get in with lower so like I said seems a bit random. I have also seen 3.8 or 3.9 not get in and some lower gpa's than your get accepted. There are no longer any interviews and no resume or letter of recommendations to my knowledge. I appllied for fall but was not accepted.. good luck or your journey. Let me know if you need anything else.

I heard a lady with gpa 4.0 and HESI 94% got rejected for fall 2012. She's applying for 2nd degree BSN. So I guess they look seriously at the overall performance, including a heavy weight on the 1st degree.

I wish someone could tell us for sure how it works.. it is depressing to think that even if I pulled my prereq gpa to a 4.0 I may not get accepted still

Welcome timewilltell! The deadline for spring application is September 1.

Wait, I thought the deadline for Spring 2013 had past already? Ugh, I submitted my application for Summer 2013 already bc i thought i couldnt for spring. Does anyone know if I can ask them to to change it?

I don't know if they will let u change it, but it never hurts to ask. I'm putting my application in for both just in case I don't get in for Spring
