UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

Ya, I'm still not clear either as to when they send out transcript evaluations. There are so many applicants and they get backed up. So they said they'd be sending them ASAP.

Thanks for the stats! That is helpful info. Now we all just have to hope there aren't 200 geniuses applying lol!

Wow well I really hope they get those evaluations out, cause some people claimed to have never received one while others received 3 or more. I would really like one because I want to see what they are using for my electives...I know we all hope they take the As there lol

You have been more than helpful Courtney!! I re read yesterday afternoon on Fall 2012 and couldn't go through all of the pages but I did find that these people were accepted and what I pasted were their scores. Hopefully this helps people get a better feel :)

I know a lot more were accepted lol but these were who I saw "I got acceptance and these were my stats" just fyi :)

Looks like I have no shot then. My prereq is strong with a 3.7, but my science is only 3.25. Should I retake Chem, a&p 1, and micro? I got B's on all those courses.

Exactly, hopefully the geniuses just go straight to medical school ;) Also, I am staying optimistic, if I do not get accepted in November when letters are sent out I will be anxiously waiting for a phone call like nici0513. Her stats were great "My GPA was a 3.58, I think, my science GPA is a 4.0, and my HESI was 94% with a 890 CT"

She got a call early in July to start for the Fall 2012 BSN program but didnt take it because she had already made other plans. There is always a chance!!

Jayn108 your scores are great!! is this your first time applying or second? I honestly don't know if retaking makes a difference since they choose 1st the ones with high gpa/no retakes. ?? I have retakes, so there is my downfall and I haven't taken the Hesi yet so I have to do extremely well for that top 9%!!

Thank you desjt3! This is my first time applying. I have a previous computer engineering degree and want to change to nursing. My hesi scores are good 90 and above on everything except critical thinking. I got a 770 on that. I spoke to some advisors yesterday and they told me not to take the hesi again to boost up my critical thinking score. They said that as long as I passed everything on the hesi, I should be fine. They also said that ut take the most current score so if I did worse it would hurt my chances of getting in.

Just want to say thank you to Courtney and desjt3! You guys are so helpful!

How did you get ahold of advising people!?!? On the phone or in person? I can never get ahold of anyone!

Hello everyone!

I wish everyone the best of luck during your application process. I know all of you have worked hard to get here and you all deserve to get in no matter what.

I just want to say do not get discouraged by someone else's stats that may be better than yours. First of all, do not believe everything you read here, especially when it comes to people's grades and scores. Also, do not compare yourself to anyone else. You are just going to cause yourself a lot of unnecessary stress trying to figure out what your chances are of getting in. No one knows how UT makes their decisions or what they are looking for, so you cannot get discouraged or give up just because your scores don't look like someone else's and you think you have no chance. Just know that you are worth it just like anyone else, and you have to have faith. Do not give up!. All of your hard work will pay off when the time is right.

If you remove all the unnecessary stress of trying to figure out what your chances are of getting in, you will be better off during the waiting period. Anytime you have doubts, just look back at all the hard work you have done to get you to this point. It's amazing when you think about it. I know it is very difficult. I have been there. I too spent months trying to figure out whether I had a chance or not. I applied for the Fall semester, and I didn't receive my acceptance until about 2 months after most students got theirs. I couldn't believe it! People have been getting calls throughout the summer, even people who were initially denied admission! So you never know what is going to happen. Don't ever lose hope!

My advice is to just keep doing what you're doing, trust yourself, do what works for YOU. Also, make sure you look at your transcript evaluations carefully. You don't want to have trouble with missing requirements later on. One last thing, make sure your read the school website carefully. They have tons of information there and you will get most of your questions answered just by looking at it closely. If you have any doubt about anything, contact the school directly. You should never rely on anyone else because their information may not be correct, and you don't want to jeopardize your application because of misinformation.

I wish you all the best of luck and many blessings! You can do it, and most importantly, HAVE FAITH!!!

Have faith, thank you so much! That was an amazing read and you have already helped me with the stress I had building up inside me. Thank you again so much.

Hey Courtney, well since I couldn't join the seminar yesterday because both classrooms were full, I spoke to an advisor standing outside. She answered most of my questions and gave me some good advice.

Oh, haha ok. I guess I might have to go up there to ask in person then. Sorry you couldn't get in yesterday :(

Thank you Havefaith!! You are 100% right :) Congrats on getting in! Us hopefuls are staying optimistic for sure!!

Jayn108 you are welcome!! Hopefully we can all provide enough support and help to get each other through the waiting period!

Well you would have to ask in person after the seminar. I went there one day 3 weeks ago and they told me sorry we don't have advisors on hand to answer your questions. They gave me a brochure and told me to attend the seminar. Lol

I have been thinking about UTHSC Houston for almost 2 years. I have already attended 2 of their seminars. I just needed to the motivation to quit my job and start doing my prereqs. Luckily, I finished my prereqs in a year, and now I'm fired up for nursing school.
