UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

Thanks, could any tell me what immunizations we need to have? I have searched the website and cant find a list. Also, is there a specific place we have to get the criminal background check and drug test? I live in San Antonio!

Here's the required immunizations. It looks like you can get the shots or satisfy the requirements with titers instead.

This list is from 2009, so the Bacterial Meningitis won't be on there. We need that also. It's mandated by the state of Texas for health professions beginning with Spring 2012 semester. Lucky us! :)

Specializes in Medical/Surgical Telemetry.

I'm so anxious!

I finally checked again after a couple hours... nothing :( My last name is an M. So hopefully tomorrow.

Good night everyone!

I've been stalking this forum and UTLink all day. It's been frustrating and overwhelming emotionally. We all have so much tied up in the schools we applied to......the time, the money, the hope!

I am beat from the day.

Good luck to everyone and may our fate be known soon. Goodnight my fellow future classmates:)

I have to admit, I've got a huge knot in my stomach. Seeing people getting accepted left and right, and my last name starts with the letter "B"

Here are my stats

GPA: 3.33

HESI: 97%

Sci: 4.0

Bacc/Mast degree's

Wont be able to sleep this evening... damn

Here is the form you need to fill out to complete the Residency Form. I had it emailed to me when I called the registrars office today. You can not save the form so you have to fill it out, print it, sign it, and then fax it back or scan it and email it back in.

Also, I did a search on the UTHSC web site for the background check requirement and went through that process as well. It cost about $50.00

Can anyone give me some advice? I have everything done except my immunizations and I am freaking out because the hepatitis seriers takes so long. I know I should have started it already but it just slipped my mind with all the other stuff I had going on. Does anyone know if there is a fast track program?

There is a fast track for Hep B, but I believe the shots are given at 4 week intervals and you have to get a booster in a year. Are you sure you haven't had those shots before? I remember I had to get them in middle school (but I lived in Wisconsin at the time).

I believe someone from the Spring hopefuls for 2011 or it could have been further up in our thread, that had something posted about getting the series done faster. I remember them saying it cost more. You might look back at their thread as well as ours. I am not sure how acurate the information is. I can not remember which thread for sure it was, but I have only read theirs and ours; so it has to be one of the two.

@amby if there is any possibility you have had the shot, at all, no matter how young, go get a titer. It is much cheaper than the shot series, and at one point in time hep b was pretty standard. Also, if everything I have been told is true, you only have to have 2 out of 3 of the hep b series completed by the time you start. The first two can be taken a month apart, so if you start now, you can get them in time. The fast track hep b series is ridiculously expensive and I would suggest not doing it unless you absolutely have no other options.
