This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!
Thank youu :) that lifts my spirits! haha he is definitely very proud of me. Their support is one of the main reasons I've come as far as I have. He actually just got out of his knee surgery a few minutes ago and is doing great! (:
What is amazing to me is hearing everyone's stories about why they went into the field they did and the back story of their life. Everyone has one, and each one is just as touching as the next. We all landed on nursing, but we all have a different story. :) Life is good I tell ya!
@taylorxteddy, So happy to hear that your Dad is out of surgery and doing well :) That is wonderful news.
On a side note: I understand about your financial aid situation. I was in the same boat the first time I went to college a million years ago. My parents made too much money. Most colleges have some sort of "exception policy" for hardship cases. I'm not sure if TWU or UTHSC has one, but I would would look into it. I know that UTA does. It's called a student hardship application. You have to write an essay telling them why you are having a hard time financially etc. Then fill out an application. You may have to provide them with financial statements or other forms of verification. I would contact the financial aid office at both schools and ask them.
Good Luck to you. Also, the sooner your parents stop claiming you as a dependent, the sooner the school will consider you "on your own" and then you will be eligible for all aid.
@teddy. I am so happy to hear the surgery went well and can understand what you have been going through;I have had to experience this with my mother for the past year. I know it is has been a challenge for you and your family but it sounds like there is an incredible amount of love and support that is shared and that is truly a blessing. You are a strong, intelligent and compassionate person from what i understand and with that kind of love and support to back you up I think you can take on any challenge life bring your way!...no worries with the stinkin' financial aid I'm positive there are options for you and the financial aid counselors will certainly have answers for you. Best of luck and keep doin what you are doin....seems to be workin'!
Thanks everyone! This has been a great support for me! :) You will all make great nurses because you are so kind thanks for the advice. I will sort this situation out certainly. I like to believe everything happens for a reason, so I will find a way!
Now we just need to know something from UT already dangit!
@ taylorxteddy, i understand completely where you are coming from. my father, father-in-law, and stepdad (whom has been in my life since age 3) were all diagnosed with different forms of cancer in the same month, but one year apart each! i know it is very difficult at times, but i count myself blessed because it has given me a new perspective on life and how quickly things can change for all of us! you sound like a fighter and i'm sure your dad is too! keep your chin up & i'm certain many good things will come your way!
