UTHSC (Houston) Spring

Published

This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)

I'm applying with the following stats:

Pre-req GPA: 3.21

Science GPA: 3.66

Overall GPA: 2.81

I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)

Good luck to everyone!!

oh ok....thanks for posting!!;)

I just want ALL of you guys to know that I have spent my entire Saturday night reading this thread! I am applying for Spring 2013 and wanted to get some insight. I have chewed my nails off, literally tore a label on Vitamin Water to tiny pieces and almost cried when some of you got your denial letters. I was so routing for katybusymom and was so ecstatic when you found out you got accepted! Good luck to all of you. I do NOT look forward to going through this process.

Hey Spring 2012!! How many students did UTHSC accept for the spring semester?

I just want ALL of you guys to know that I have spent my entire Saturday night reading this thread! I am applying for Spring 2013 and wanted to get some insight. I have chewed my nails off, literally tore a label on Vitamin Water to tiny pieces and almost cried when some of you got your denial letters. Dawno,

The best way to make sure that you get in to nursing school is to have a bit of flexibility. There are a lot of great nursing schools here in Houston, and in fact there's quite a bit more in the state of Texas. I would look at your situation in life, where you're living, how your family's doing, whether or not you can relocate, etc... and really consider applying to more than one school. In my situation, I applied to 4 schools between Houston and San Antonio and decided to go wherever I got accepted. Turns out the choice wasn't that hard, but it multiplied my chances of being accepted SOMEWHERE and starting in the Spring by 4 times.

I think that's the key to getting accepted when you want to be. Be flexible and shoot out several apps. Flexibility is key, because when you start your first semester of school, your life goes out the window and you devote 99% of your life to studying as it is.

As you'll notice, several of the people that were denied acceptance to UTH were accepted to other schools, and they're perfectly fine with that.

That's just my $.02 on the applications process.

Hey Spring 2012!! How many students did UTHSC accept for the spring semester?

We had almost 100 (I think it was 97?) that were accepted and showed up to orientation 2 weeks before school started.

By the time classes actually started, some of those weren't able to transfer pre-reqs, or couldn't make the financial requirements, etc. Complications kept many from enrolling.

Our class size right now is average I think. We had about 81 the last time I heard, and this includes about 4 that were called off the standy list the first day of school.

It is UT link, but apprently this is the new one..... Agh! So we cannot follow holds like y'all did :( Well spring said that they take 150, so they may accept more knowing that some will have problems coming up with $$. Oh I sure hope I can get in ;) But I also know there are many more that have applied. I was told that maybe by next week they should have a better understanding of the numbers. Such as what they min will be on the AP section, or exactly how many students apply, or min GPA to be competitive... So fingers crossed. This process if so rough.... and we still have a LONG wait :uhoh21:

... well if thats the case then why do you think I got denied? I'm happy for you but they have to take age into consideration. I have perfect everything almost except for a low CT score on the HESI. Even if they take that part seriously everything else is perfect almost. It'd be so wrong of them to just focus on one area I messed up on. Maybe you can give me a good explanation because no one else can. Familiy, friends, even NURSES I know are suprised I got denied.

Do you know what your CT score was? (if you're still out there)

I agree 100%, heavykevy and I am going to apply to four programs. Surely, one will accept me! I have a professor right now that asked "how many schools are your applying to" and I told him "four" he said "You will make it then. People who only apply to one school spend forever trying to get in".

HELLO Everybody!!! I hope that everyone here is having a wonderful semester, be it at UTHSC, UTMB, TWU, etc...... I am posting on here because I have a question for each of you. Did you receive a transcript evaluation after you applied to UTHSC? I am curious and I figured the best to ask would be y'all. There are some who believe that getting a transcript evaluation correlates with getting accepted into the school. Would y'all agree or disagree? Please any input would be nice. I have applied for the Fall and I am hoping to get to attend UTHSC. Unfortunately it doesn't look like we will be able to get that early holds indication like y'all did. We are now on the new system, and it doesn't even show any holds at all..... Mine shows complete, but I know that I am missing 4 classes, and so does UTHSC (I got an eval from them). Apparently some individuals accounts show that they have to-do's on their accounts in regards to missing some of the required 60 hrs.... but they atleast have the 40 hours..... Any thoughts???

We had 90 at the start of the semester according to our instructors, but our clinical instructor is saying they are being told to prepare for 104 for the upcoming semester. As heavykey said, I believe we're down to about 81 now. You guys can get through the waiting process! It is nerve-racking, but so rewarding once you get those letters, and even if you don't, you can still re-apply. By no means does not getting in mean you aren't good enough IF it does happen to you. I had a friend with a 4.0 and a 96% on the HESI get a denial letter. Who knows why! Don't lose your drive though! Do your best, because that's all you can do. You CAN get where we are right now!

I will say though, nursing school is going to completely take away your life. I am not saying that to scare you, I am saying that so that you don't make the mistake of being like me and coming in with unrealistic expectations despite having people tell you it is hard. I got accepted with a 3.97 honors GPA and I am looking at a 3.0 for this first semester. Enjoy your time now! Don't overload yourself and spend time with friends and family. It is not impossible to maintain a social life while in nursing school, because I am doing it at the expense of my As, but it is very difficult. Don't sit around wishing the acceptance process would hurry up, because when you get as far into the semester as I am, you'll wish you were in high school again! :p

Good luck to everyone working on applying! :)

Thanks for posting....so they know who they're accepting if they are telling instructors how many to prepare for....i wish they would just let us know already...in past semesters they posted around the beginning of March!!

I am going through this thread and got to this post. I was wondering if taylorxteddy or another user that has taken the HESI would suggest what they would study to be better prepared for the critical thinking portion of the exam. Thanks guys.
