Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:
Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75
Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0
Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.
My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -
Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30
Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! )
Overall Gpa: 3.28
Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.
My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.
Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!
Hey everyone.
I was just reading through all of these comments and remembered someone from one of these threads last semester who was put on the 'wait-list' and was BEGGING anyone who got in and decided against going to decline acceptance ASAP so he would know if he was going as soon as possible.
Congratulations on all of you getting in to other schools, but if you have made your mind 100% that you are not going to UTHSC, please please PLEASE do those of us without other options the same you would want for you and decline your invitations so that makes our chances just a little better?
I might just be nervous and feeling insecure because it's been so long without hearing anything, but you can all understand what I'm saying, right?
Congrats again on your acceptances! You're all going to make GREAT nurses, I know it.
Oh yeah--April 15th for sure? Woah. It's a little more than two weeks and I know that's not long, but three months ago I was telling my family I should have known something by now. So it still feels like so long considering everytime I call them to say hello the first thing they say is "tell me the good news".
You know something funny is I rarely check myUT. I always check here first for something new and assume since none of you have said anything then I must not know either! hahaa!
littleone126 - If I do get an acceptance from UTHSC, I will be evaluating the whole picture before I decide anything. As of right now I am saying UTMB, but they are also the only one who I have heard from (only applied to UTMB & UTHSC). I am excited to know that I am going to nursing school, and UTHSC still has an appeal for me. UTHSC and Baylor are the only ones who offer the DNP I am going for. That has me SEVERELY torn! UTMB doesn't offer it Also if they offer me a scholarship right away, I would be dumb to not take that and opt to pay for everything. There are still many factors left open, that could very well sway my mind. I wish that this was a more cut and dry decision.
BUT PLEASE be assured that if I do not choose to attend UTHSC, I will notify them immediately to open a spot for someone else. I would never leave someone hanging!
And I must agree that I check here more than I check myUT.
THANK you so much! I made the hugh mistake of not taking my TEAS in time, so now I'm stuck with only UTHSC. It's okay though, because I know if I don't get in, I'll just continue taking courses in case I want to back after I graduate nursing school for my master's. I also think if I don't get in, I will apply to Baylor as well as UTHSC for next spring just because they have such a competitive program as well. EVEN if means moving to Dallas, I guess you gotta do what you gotta do, right?
Anyways--congrats again. Remember that whichever school you end up at, you're still one of the lucky ones who got in. Think of how many people who applied who didn't get in? The competition is outrageous.
littleone123- I understand! Thanks! I am still awe-struck that I managed to get accepted into a program. I had this deep set fear in my gut that I wasn't going to get in to either school... And I don't have the option to move if I can get into another nursing program outside of Houston areas.... So what is here, was my only option...except for all the ADN programs, which was taking a step back for myself.
I am a firm believer that sometimes things happen for a reason, that point just may not be visible at this point in time. Everything will always work out the way it is suppose to, just so long as you work hard and are willing to put in the time, effort, and patience behind your decision.
But I wish the best of luck to everyone :) We have all worked hard to get here.
Hey everyone! I told you guys I was getting advised by the nursing department at UTA last week, well...they DID accept my Pharm. from LoneStar ...So I don't have to take it in the Fall! But, the Chem 1405 that I'm in now is NOT going to count
UTHSC takes it but UTA requires Chem 1411, so guess what I'll be taking this summer? I wish all the nursing schools in Texas could come together and make a STANDARD prereq list so it wouldn't be so difficult when applying to several programs because UTA doesn't require Nutrition, Philosophy, or Speech which I have taken all based on my plans to go to UTHSC!! UGGH, why does this process have to be SO complicated??
Hi everyone,
Congrats to those that have been accepted into other schools! I got accepted to TWU today, so I am feeling pretty happy! I also got my UTHSC transcript evaluation today.
I have kind of a silly question. I have been reading and reading and reading the UTHSC website and this forum, but can not seem to definitively figure out if the the Traditional BSN is 4 continuous semesters or if you would have the summer off? I know the Pacesetter accelerated program is 4 continuous semesters, but I am not sure about the traditional. Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks and good luck to everyone!
Julianne

tuttie91 - I wonder if they plan on sending the letters out before the 15th or after, because I KNOW that they will not be there on Sunday
Hopefully it will be the 13th, and not the 16th.... but with the mind games they seem to like playing they may mean April 15, 2013
since that happens to fall during the week..... LMAO
What is ironic is that at one time I could have SWORN up and down that I would go to UTHSC if they accepted me over UTMB.... Now I am am 99.9% Positive that I will be turning down my spot at UTHSC, if they offer me one. It just seems like UTMB may be a better fit for me at this time in my life.... But there is still the 0.01% chance that I may attend still! Oy Vay!!!
