UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:

Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75

Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0

Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.

My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -

Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30

Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! :crying2: )

Overall Gpa: 3.28

Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.

My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.

Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!

They said we would hear something in April. Last year the computer program that they used issued holds to people who were accepted before the official letter arrived in the mail. So technically they found out a little earlier then I think was intended. Since they have upgraded to a new computer system I don't know if we will be alerted by the holds so we may have to wait until April when they send out the letters. Ough! Hopefully we will find something out this month ... I think we have waited long enough! :D

From what I understand, your account will probably reflect before you get a letter from them. I have been told by several that it will be anywhere from mid March to April 15 (same day letters are suppose to go out)...... I sure hope to get one of their acceptance letters ;) But which one of us at this point doesn't want one of those.... lol

I am sure we all want it... I know I do!!! I check daily and sometimes too much... just trying to see if anything has been updated or if anyone has posted and had any updates. I find little ways through the day to keep myself busy... otherwise I might go insane! But that will be nothing compared to what will happen if I get an acceptance letter!!! lol

Hey y'all! I'm a current student at UTHSC and I remember being in your shoes just a few months ago. Just wanted to tell y'all to try your hardest not to stress out! Transcript evals may come or they may not...it doesn't mean anything. I've heard of people in my class that didn't get one and I got at least 4 saying the same exact thing every time (none of which I called about/requested). UTHSC is an awesome school, but they seem to like to take forever to get through the applications. We started finding out we were accepted just about on the exact day we were told we would so I wouldn't worry too much if you don't hear anything for awhile. Good luck everyone!!

Hi Cristina,

Are you a spring or fall start? Thank you for taking the time to post here and keep us calm. What is the schedule like all week? I know that somewhere it says Mon-Friday 8am-6pm. Just wanted to see if this was just a range of times and may vary. I just want to prepare myself for organizing my future schedule! I have two little ones who will be in day care while I am at school. Thank you for your help!

I just started this spring. Your schedule won't be all day everyday Monday-Friday. Right now, we have classes Monday 8-12ish, Tuesday 8-12 (sometimes until 4), Wednesday 8-4 (with a break from 11-1). Clinicals start around the 6th week and then you'll have an extra day either Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. No one in my class wanted Saturdays, so for us, it's only Thursday or Friday. You'll be in the hospital from 6:30 am- 3:30 pm. The schedule becomes more compact during the summer semester but since y'all are applying for fall I imagine the schedule will be pretty similar, if not the same, as ours.

One of the greatest lessons I've learned so far is to be flexible. They don't expect you to drop everything you've got going on instantly, but things can change and you just have to be ready for them. That being said, the teachers are VERY understanding and will do their best to help you succeed.

Hope this helps!

Is anyone going to be commuting from the Woodlands? I checkout out the Woodlands Express but the website is hard to understand and I think that unless you are down there all day, there are no buses running in the afternoon.

Any suggestions on park and rides from Woodlands to med center?

CristinaL that was awesome help!!! I have a flexible schedule so anything they change I can adjust to. Just glad to hear it isn't 5-6 days a week like I had originally thought. I honestly expected to be there 8-6 mon-fri with clinicals on Saturday. So at least some days are earlier than others and it switches up. Im excited!!

Swweetipie- I live in Spring, TX near Klein ISD. I will be commuting to UTHSC as well I didn't know there was a bus system from The Woodlands. I would love to have a bus pass and be taken to school over driving there and back everyday for that long in my car. If anyone has any information I am interested as well!

Idk if you guys feel this way but right now I feel super low. The fact that many of our lives are in a standstill moment sucks. I wish we could know and finally starting moving on with our lives ): god I am praying we all get in and praying even harder that we find out soon so these nerves and emotiOns stop driving us insannne!

i am trying to focus on school and whatever else my mind can focus on... maybe pick up a hobby for the time being...did you apply to other schools?

lol I took a part time job! Some days I have actually not checked my status! :D

Meghana09 - I understand how ya feel. I hate the feeling of the "unknown"....... But I keep trying to remember that there is a plan for me, I just don't know what it is. We gotta keep our chins up! The "news" will come and we will know what the Fall month hold for us.

Ktdidit - that's ingenious that you've found a method to distract yourself...... Lol! I wished with my hectic schedule I could forget that I am waiting to hear from 2 schools....... Ugh!!
