UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:

Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75

Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0

Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.

My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -

Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30

Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! :crying2: )

Overall Gpa: 3.28

Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.

My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.

Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!

By the way, @Krique39, when did you complete your app? I had done my in October, but then they contacted me to resend my older transcripts (they were over 6 months old). I didn't get that done until mid December. I've wondered if that's why I haven't received a transcript eval yet (if, if, if they do it in some sort of order). who knows!

ok, so I called Admissions today. they said that they are still in the process of sending out transcript evals and, because they have over 900 applicants (so she said), there is a chance that there will be an overlap of when someone may receive it and when the letters of acceptance/decline go out (april 15ish). i was told that the evals are sent out randomly - no distinct rhyme or reason (which i thought, but needed to hear it). of course, she said i shouldn't worry just coz i haven't received mine yet. yup, easier said than done...

Well that is good news... kind of. I know it probably does not make you feel much better though. Now I am wondering how many applicants there were lol

Thanks nyctransplant! You just saved me a phone call ;)

Prayerful- uthsc told me that they had 900 total, but only about 600 of those were for the traditional program. That is still a lot of people though!

April 15th seems so late! There are other schools that have an acceptance/deposit deadline well before that date. Not that you couldn't always cancel your admission somewhere else, but that blocks a spot from someone else until the last minute, which is not very nice to do. It feels like an eternity!!

@nyctransplant, I think that I finished my app at the end of November or the beginning of December. But I too had trouble with transcripts and they didn't get the last of those until January. So it's either that or who knows. Six of one...

April 15th! What's wrong with UT! They hands down take the longest to get apps done!

Actually, I think that UT Arlington takes the longest. For the Spring 2012 apps, we turned them in June 1st and didn't hear back until around Thanksgiving (if they got your application at all). That's a long time to wait.

Hey y'all! I'm a current student at UTHSC and I remember being in your shoes just a few months ago. Just wanted to tell y'all to try your hardest not to stress out! Transcript evals may come or they may not...it doesn't mean anything. I've heard of people in my class that didn't get one and I got at least 4 saying the same exact thing every time (none of which I called about/requested). UTHSC is an awesome school, but they seem to like to take forever to get through the applications. We started finding out we were accepted just about on the exact day we were told we would so I wouldn't worry too much if you don't hear anything for awhile. Good luck everyone!!

I checked the mail yesterday evening, and there was an envelope from ut...but it was only the transcript evaluation...for the third time.

rmegster... i think i recall from the info session in dec. that the applicants for fall admission is usually double what it is for spring.. and they said it was around 800... so 1600 for fall... so i will take 900 or 600... that is better than 1600 or so. it is still alot and yes april 15th seems soooooooooooo far away... i think i have been fairly patient but lately i have turned on my email... myuth.. and allnurses stalking.. :)

So let me get this straight when did they say we should start hearing decisions? I am going insane here.
