UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:

Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75

Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0

Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.

My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -

Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30

Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! :crying2: )

Overall Gpa: 3.28

Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.

My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.

Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!

hi everyone, when i log into my uth portal, in my to do list it says due date is 1/29/2012. is this date when they are meant to have received it or ....( am nt sure),but i have heard people say it has to be taken before the 15th. pls does anyone have any info abt this? thanks

It is my understanding that everything needs to be completed by the deadline (Jan 15), but as many people have stated, the testing center sends the scores at the end of each month. I would suggest taking the test by the 15th so you can have a completed application and then they will recieve the scores from the testing center by the due date of the 29th.

Hi EVERYONE!!!! It's been a while since I last posted. I took my HESI exam at the last minute (December 22nd). I waited to complete the fall semester at lone star montgomery because I took Nutrition, AP I, 2nd Psyc, Statistics, and Sociology (all of which go towards UTHSC program) I made all A's! I am currently retaking Govt 2301 in a winter mini because years ago I got a D! Right now I have an A so as soon as that goes through I am RESENDING my transcripts to UT. They said if any changes should happen to your GPA or Transcripts to immediately notify the registrar's office. I already sent in my transcripts with the fall grades, just want them to know I made up that D and took it to an A as well.

On my to do list it is showing that I need my HESI A2 scores to be submitted. I took mine through a prometric testing center so I assumed it was automatically sent to UT? Ive emailed them, just waiting to hear back. I did not study for the HESI exam because I was swamped during the fall semester and immediately started a mini mester course for Govt, not to mention the holidays are making everything crazy. Here are my scores:

HESI OVERALL SCORE: 87.03%

MATH 90%

Reading/Comprehension 89.13%

Grammar 86%

Vocabulary 82%

Anatomy&Physiology 88%

Critical Thinking 830

Compared to most all of you my grades are not that great, seems to me everyone is getting mostly As with a high overall grade. The only classes I have left for pre reqs are AP II, PHIL, CHEM, and MICROBIOLOGY. (first three I am taking next semester, Micro in the summer). My DILEMMA is this, they said they require 40 semester credit hours of pre reqs be taken to be able to apply, of those 40...8 must be science. I have only AP I under my belt (so I only have 4 not 8). But I have more than 40 credit hours...? So this is why I am taking my chance. I also just graduated with my associate's degree (maybe that will help in someway, again being overly optimistic). My science gpa is a 4.0 but that is only for AP I and I just know they want to see how well I do in TWO sciences. This may be the deal breaker for getting accepted.

My pre-req GPA is 3.6

My science GPA (one science) is 4.0

If I don't get in the first go round for FALL 2012 I will apply for Spring 2013. In this event I will have a whole fall semester off of school which I haven't had in over 2 years, because I only have 4 more classes to take for UT. Hoping I get in the first go round so I don't have any breaks! If not ill just study hard for retaking my HESI ;).

Hopefully my post helped. I know reading over all of the others has helped me tremendously! Good luck to everyone!!!

How do we know 80 students get accepted? I have been trying to find this out for awhile, very good to know! :) It just seems like it is very "up in the air" ? So none of us should get discouraged just yet!!

Desjt3 - I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they have said they are firm on the minimum of 8 hrs pre-reqs. When I had originally thought to apply I was short a few hours for the 40 minimum by 3 hrs (which I was taking but wouldn't be finished by the deadline) but I would have had all 60 finished by the start date... They told me not to waste my money because my application would not considered since I failed to meet their minimum requirements.

That is what I figured! I have already done everything as though I have that second science anyways so I can't stop or get my money back but at least I can be more confident about getting in January 2013 which was what I was making my back up plan. I had to try though because if I didn't I would always be thinking about the "what if" and I really didn't want to have an entire semester off since Ill be done with all the classes this summer. I am optimistic but also not kidding myself. Still hoping for a miracle ;) if not ill be a UT student in 2013!

your est et might e studying to take the clep chemistry test to get credit for chem which will make the 8 hours

What is that? how do I do this??? that would be great....

Clep is a test you take (through your college) to test out of something, but I don't know if it's something you'll be able to get scheduled and tested by the 15th. But if your not familiar with Chemistry, I wouldn't recommend trying to take the test. Chemical is craziness... I had to WORK my ass off to get my A this semester in Chemistry. It is definitely something that is better taught. Just my opinion though.

Does anyone know who I need to contact to see if they have recieved my transcripts? Should I email or should I call? If anyone knows how I can contact someone to help me with this I would appreciate it! I'm kinda freaking out because the deadline is coming up quick and my "To Do" list has not updated, so I am assuming they have not recieved any of my transcripts!! THANK YOU!! :)

Contact the registrar's office the number is on the website. I left a voice-mail with my name and number and let them know that I wanted to confirm that they received my transcripts. I got a call back shortly after and she dug around looking for mine for a while and found it so they have mine. They said processing will take a few weeks for it to come off of your "to-do" list!

Ya I registered for Chemistry this Spring with AP II, almost did AP II and Micro together but figured it be smarter for me to do Micro alone in the summer. Ya I contacted my school they don't offer that but mentioned going to the clep website to see who offered it. I think it is too late to try that too especially with Chemistry being very detailed. I haven't taken it but took that portion on the HESI and made a 76. I got 23 out of 30 questions right. I am assuming there are a ton more questions on a clep test and I only know a bit of chem through A&P. I guess I will see what I can do! Thank you for the help :)

This has been driving me crazy!!! I called today, left the same message you did, but got no call back. I sent my transcript months ago and it is still on my To do list. How long ago did you send yours? I also emailed and got nothing. I'm going to have to go down there tomorrow.
