Alas! Here I go again! This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!
@ashleynicole264, I can see Asst. Dean Ashwill being an instructor. She must have really been on top of her game to go from professor to Assistant Dean! She still seems pretty in control of things.
When UTA dropped their June application period last year, it pushed me back six months in the program. This is the first time I am applying to the program for Spring 2012. I live in Houston, so if I am accepted, I will have to travel to do clinicals, as Houston does not have any partnered hospitals yet.
@ tejas. So far, I have really enjoyed taking most of my prereqs at a community college. It is a lot closer to home, classes are smaller, and the professors know you by name. I admit I am intimidated by the fact that some of my classes at UTA will have more students than my high school class! I hope I will enjoy Patho as much as you did! I agree with you about the advisers being overwhelmed. Though, it is frustrating that UTA can't hire more advisers to help with the high volume of applicants.
I want to share a few things I've experienced with UTA. I've been taking pre-reqs with them since January. I've finished over 25 credits with them. If this is your first time taking online classes, be ready for work. I've heard so many complaints from other students that these classes give too much work to do. It is expected for an online student to do more work than a traditional class. You have very little interaction with your instructor, so much of your learning is up to YOU. Dont expect to be "spoon-fed". For many people, this could be frustrating.
Online programs are not for everyone. I've heard that the partnership nursing program is sometimes harder than the traditional, mainly for the reasons I specified above. I personally enjoy more online than traditional because I can take them at any time of the day. I work full time in a field outside of healthcare. I have a family to take care off and I am the only income of the house. Have 2 small kids that require time. Plus I need to make time for the wife :). This is why I need the flexibility.
I will start my last 4 classes this semester, and still waiting for the answer for Spring 12 start.
