Hello!

I just graduated from University of Texas at Arlington's RN-BSN program. If anyone has any questions about the program, feel free to ask and comment below.

When you say you can "go at your own pace", can you explain that? I work 32 hours a week and will continue to do that while getting my BSN. I would like to find a program where I can take a class or two each quarter but also only take one class a quarter if I like. Do they offer this? Thank you

You can take as many or as few classes as you like at a time. The nursing classes are all 5 weeks in length, except Capstone which is 7. This school works on the semester system, so each semester I took three nursing classes back to back. I only took one at a time and had a week break in between classes. I had some general Ed classes that I needed to do, and most of those were 8 weeks in length, so I'd throw one of those in to overlap on some of the nursing classes. I worked full time throughout the entire program and did not find that it was too much. Each of the classes open up on the weekend before the first day so I'd just sit down and plan it out. If I knew that I was going out of town or had a busy week coming up, I'd work ahead. One class I took during the summer and it coincided with my vacation at the lake, so I finished the entire class, except the discussion boards, in the first week so I could be done with it. It's very adaptable to life/work and very much a go at your own pace kind of program.

Hi everybody,

Hope the thread is still open ? I was just curious if anybody read some reviews about UTA and also the online RN to BSN program. I just read some, as I am considering applying there. There are A LOT of really bad reviews, mentioning slow responses from coaches, not much help, how the program or instructors almost want you to fail, it's very disorganized etc. Found them by googling reviews on UTA, I think on gradreviews.com or something like that.

Anybody noticed anything like that? I definitely want to keep my good GPA, so I don't want to almost be set for failure.

Truth be told - When I called initially to ask for questions I had a person on the phone, Beatrice, who was pretty rude and seemed like I bothered her with my questions. She was condescending too - I crossed UTA of my list because of her. If she is like this, maybe that's the culture in general?! Then days later I reconsidered it because some nurses said they liked the program. Now I wonder again after reading those bad reviews... What to do? I have to pay out of pocket and don't want to waste my hard earned money on people that don't want to help me succeed. I am aiming to start something/anything in fall... ? I also like info on Northeastern SU and American Military University...

Any advice from those who went through it? Did you experience this too?

Agree as well. I've had a difficult time getting the right information. I attended the webinar on June 26, and was given a lot of information, very helpful, or so I thought. I immediately completed application, sent in my official transcripts and awaiting my degree plan. Well, I got a call from a rude Enrollment Specialist stating I would not get a degree plan until I finish the first class, which I wanted to start on Aug 26 to take advantage of their 500$ "scholarship", basically a discount on the first class. It's July 18 and one of my transcripts is still awaiting to be added to my account, it is still in my "To Do List". How? When it was sent in electronically, I received a confirmation and 1 transcript was sent in snail mail, and that one has been removed off my "To Do List". I've been assertive about what I expected from UTA to the Enrollment Specialists, I seem to get different one every time, I call and get no answer, I leave a voicemail and don't receive a call back, instead I get an email with a response. Before all this process I was getting calls daily. At this point, I am going with Grand Canyon University, their application fee was zero, and they request transcripts from the colleges I have attended, I'm not even having to pay for them to be sent over, they are doing the time consuming work for me. Unless a school doesn't accept their Transcript Request Form, then I would have to request, but don't foresee an issue with my schools because they have done it before using Credential Solutions & Parchment (they use other entities as well). Anyway, already having a great experience with Grand Canyon University and wouldn't recommend UTA at all at this point. Also, in a facebook group I'm in a member made a comment last week that 9 classes she took at California State University San Marcos were not accepted by UTA. I have made it clear to UTA (as they were my #1 choice) that I wanted to know exactly what my degree plan looked like and was before I took a class and I was told I would find out by early August if I submitted documents ASAP, when speaking to Enrollment Specialist she stated it takes 3-4 weeks before they receive all transcripts & 3-4 weeks after before a degree plan is formulated, not what was said in the webinar. One of the Enrollment Specialists even went on to say that they could stop calling me and close my account, I asked what about my transcripts that I had paid for and had sent already? She said they wouldn't be reviewed, rude. I wouldn't waste your time and money on this school. They refuse to even look at unofficial transcripts to give you any kind of evaluation.

I am currently finishing my first BSN class and am scheduled to take Health Policy next. which classes are doable doubled together?

Management is much easier. The assignments are mostly fill in the blank and discussion board posts. Research is time consuming and should be taken by itself. You could easily take Management + elective or Health Policy + elective. I'd advise against taking Research, Vulnerable Populations, or Capstone with any other class as they are just too intense.

I'm currently in the program now.... I don't have many electives to take since I have a prior Bachelors' degree. To try to save time, I am wondering how difficult it might be to double up on two nursing classes like Management and Health Policy?

Between Health Policy, Nursing Leadership-Management, Health Asssessment, Holisitc care of Older Adults and Healthy Lifestyles - any two that would be okay to take together? Appreciate feedback on this. Thanks!!

I would plan to take Research, Vulnerable Pop and Capstone alone, of course.

Specializes in Med/Surg (ortho/urology).

I am currently in the RN-BSN program at UTA. What are some easy electives you have taken alongside the nursing courses? I need a nursing elective & a non nursing elective.

This is a good idea as they are very time consuming. Otherwise, you can double up. I didn't double up nursing classes but I often took history with a nursing course and would say it is very similar time wise.

If you're certified that actually covers your one of your nursing electives, FYI

Easy courses that I took:

NURS 3309 Medical Terminology

NURS 3352 Legacy of the Family

Hi, I have two questions

In 2010 I earned my B.S. in Health management and decided to go back to start the nursing program. I am currently taking the last of my Pre reqs at HCC, and another student told me that in order to get accepted you have to take UTA's pre reqs before they will accept you in the nursing program. I would like to know if that is true? My second Question is what is "3 Considerations" mean?

Thank you for you time and willingness to answer questions

Hello!

I’ve been trying to finish my BSN via UTA RN-BSN for years (5 ?). I have only nursing management and capstone left. I started nursing management in 2018 and it was too much at the time - the power point presentation was what did me in. I just couldn’t figure it out. Anyway, how do I get through this?!? Any advice you can provide re: how to manage this management class would be appreciated. I have a full time job (5 days a week), 3 kids, and a husband. I have got to get this done, but I just don’t know if I can! I also remember feeling overwhelmed by trying to fit in the shadowing time to write a paper. Thank you!!

This question would be better suited for UTA. This post is about students who are already RNs and are completing the RN to BSN program. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

If I recall correctly, the management class was pretty simple time wise and heavily worksheet based. I remember having to write a paper about the manager I shadowed and having to fill in a worksheet about budget along with discussion boards. You can always check out Chegg - sometimes they have study guides available that can help go more in depth to assignments.

i think i will be starting in march... which books can i skip out on buying ??
