Hey all, I thought I would set up a place to discuss the next application period for UTA's Fall 2012 nursing program. There was so much info in the Spring 2012 forum, thought it might be helpful to start a new thread...
Post away!
Hey Nikkib376! I have an interview on Monday at 3pm with Phyllis! I am pretty excited about it. I read your post about applying to THR and you finally getting a call for the ER Admitting spot. So, I started applying also (have been applying everywhere else too!) and I got a call today. I hope I get in!
I applied to the traditional and online UTA Fall 2012 program. I heard from a friend today that there is a possiblity that they will admit more students this coming semester due to the increase in applicants.
Hi MEGREEN!,
I am excited about this opportunity as well. I am currently at Navarro and UTA finishing up my prereqs. After this semester I will have 3 classes left to take this summer. My science GPA is 4.0 and my overall is a 3.9. I made a 91% on my HESI. My hope is to be employed with a partner hospital to better my chances of being accepted into the AP BSN program for this Fall. My advisor originally stated the deadline to being employed with a partner hospital is April 1st, but I wonder if I get this position if it would be too late? Do you know how that process goes with the hospital and the school?
I am not sure to be honest...Nikki might be able to help you more with that. Are you taking Pharm or Patho this summer.
I am trying to preplan for my summer classes and mymav is saying that Patho is closed . I am kind of FREAKING out becasue I decide3d to drop Patho becasue I had a low B in it and didn't want to end up with a C. I had planned to take over summer...Is anyone else having this problem??
Rubyredd I have no idea about the cutoff as far as being partnered. I have heard that a few of the advisors say one thing and others say something different and it is so frustrating!!!!! Good luck with your interview!!!I wouldn't worry too much about the system saying Patho is closed. It's probably because it's too early to register? I have never seen it even get halfway full so I would be shocked if it were ever full.Your GPA is great! I took several sciences many many years ago and didn't care and made Bs and Cs so I have retaken them and have a 3.75/3.8 science GPA now. Whew!@megreene I hope I get to meet you at some point!!!! I am doing all the computer training right now and I think I get to start shadowing next week. I think I answered your questions but if you have any others, let me know!!!!
Yes, I think you are correct in regards to the Patho class showing "closed" but only because registration does not begin until April 9th. I have Patho and Pharm in my shopping cart on MyMav so I will be ready to submit once they open registration. I am interviewing for the ER Admitting also :) I hope I get to meet both of you! I have an email to my advisor right now about the cutoff for partnership...hopefully she says it is ok after April 1st. It is very frustrating with the misinformation that goes around. My advisor is Betsy Parchem and she has been fantastic! My cousin, however has not been so lucky with her advisor. I already completed Intro to Nursing and I started Medical Terminology this week. I will be starting Pharm and Patho in June. Well, thanks for the info ladies! Talk to you soon :)
Yes, mine say closed also. I emailed my advisor and she said it is because registration hasn't opened yet. If you search for any other class you will see that they all say closed right now. It typically takes 2 days for mine to respond, but it really depends on my question. If it isn't too important than it could take about a week.
@megreen, I hope I get to shadow you as well! I worked the front with Alice for a few hours on Wednesday and loved it. Some of the employees are not very respectful of us admissions people! Let's just say that these "workers" are reminding me of how I will NOT treat the other staff when I become an RN! I am just not a rude person, so i was a little stunned at the dynamic. Oh well, I am thick-skinned so I can take it lol!!!
@rubyredd, let us know for sure how it goes on Monday! Phyllis is very easy to talk to and will put you at ease immediately. I look forward to hearing about how it goes!
Once you get to know the clinical staff they become nicer. You will soon see the type of attitude in our depratment as well as clinical staff! I plan to remember where I came from as well!
Do either of you recieve any type of financial aide? If so has yalls posted yet? I am waiting to see if I wil be getting my loan for summer and it still has not been posted. When I called a couple weeks ago they told me it would be the end of march which is here and almost gone!

Thank you! I just know how frustrated I was when applying and if I can help eleviate even a little frustration, it's worth it!
I will tell you that grades are important, but as I mentioned before, being partnered is a huge help (should your grades dip a little)...the best thing is to have a back up plan and apply for several programs.
As for Pharm - I can't really advise you on how to study/prepare for that course, except to say, that in any job, you utilize and access resources...you may want to have some resources you can utilize if you need them... :thankya:
