UT Tyler nursing spring

Published

Am applying to UT tyler nursing program for spring 2015. Anyone else applying? Feel free to post comments.

Did you just call it a ten panel test and ask them to send it to tyler?

You just take your conformation page with you and they already know.. the lady told me she does them all the time for UT.

I checked the apartments online yesterday and they are expensive for my budget. Is there anyone looking for a roommate. I am a guy.

The apartments are awfully expensive....

Well, I got all of my shots done and will have the TB screen completed on Friday. I tried to get my Student ID at UT Tyler but they will not provide that until I am registered for Spring 2015 because my status is still considered inactive. And yet, I was not able to get the vaccinations at UT Tyler because they require a Student ID. And yet... the School of Nursing requires the vaccinations to be completed prior to class registration! This is what is referred to as an "infinite loop"! I had to go to a city vaccination clinic just to break the "cycle"!

Tlkeating...what does your boyfriend do? Mine is looking for a job too.

Right now he is a production supervisor...but he is looking to get out of the production area and hopefully into a better 8-5pm job. His hours are crazy so he's looking for something with a schedule, maybe banking, sales, insurance?? Not too sure though. Hoping for anything right now! What about yours?

I have a contact for a home in Whitehouse for rent, but it is pricey because it is a very nice 3 bedroom home. It *might* be possible for three of you to join together. It has a yard and everything. Whitehouse is about 10-15 minutes from UT Tyler campus. If you compare the cost to apartments, ~$450 is not bad at all! She normally would not want to do this but because she knows that you guys might be in the same program and *should* be serious about your studies- she said that she would consider it. If you decide to do this, keep in mind that one of you will ultimately be responsible in the event one or more of the other two fail to make their payments. So one of you would collect the rent from your housemates and that person pays the owner of the home. Here is a description:

3 bedroom

2 bath

2 car garage

Shop out back with window AC

$1000 deposit

$1300/mo rent

$300 non-refundable pet deposit

Minimum 1-Year lease

Responsible for:

Yard upkeep

Utilities

Electric

Water

NO SMOKING in the home!

I can vouch for the niceness of this home. Please do not get upset with me if this for some reason doesn't pan out for any of you that are interested. I am simply putting it out there because I think it would be a good deal and it might help you out. This is not my home and I have zero say in it!

Some simple math assuming there were three of you, the cost for each:

Rent: $433/mo.

Utility, Electric, Water: ~$100/mo. (during peak energy months... estimating here)

Fuel/Car (assuming you guys carpool!): ~$30/mo.

Food: $200/mo.

Total: $763/mo.

To me- this seems like a viable option. Note, that this program is supposedly quite challenging and could have a significant drop-out rate. So you must consider this because if one person packs up and leaves then your cost for the remaining two has gone up from 33% to 50%.

Private message me if you are interested.

Regards,

LW

thats a great deal!

I don't know how some of you do it. I am fortunate to live with my brother temporarily while I return to school. I am debating whether to work part time while I attend the ABSN program but as challenging as the program is likely to be- I am hesitant. However, twenty months with no income... ?

Hey all!

I wanted to pop in and give yall an informal congratulations! I am currently a level 4. I'll be graduating in December from UT Tyler. I started 2 years ago in your exact shoes. Also I am the project manager for our chapter of National Student Nurse's Association. For those who are on/near campus I will be seeing you next week on the 6th with Mrs. Sacrey about all the formal things thats needed. However, I am doing this to offer yall a chance to ask questions that you would not normally ask in front of teachers. Any questions are welcomed. I will start off with a few recommendations for yall.

-Books, please for the love of god buy them separately! I bought the package and my roommate bought it individually, she spent half the amount I did. Unless you want an online book, but even then 8 people can share a code to page burst and thats not a problem.

-Lab coats...don't buy them unless you really REALLY want one. I wore mine exactly....zero times. I wants my moneys back!

Feel free to ask any questions you have here and I will hopefully see you next week! :D

Hi where do you suggest we buy the books? Are all the books they list necessary? Again, how do you access the program. Is it doable. Were there a lot of people who dropped from the class? Thanks for your help.QUOTE=luckyberries;8199118]Hey all!

I'm going to answer your questions through bullet points

- books: amazon, half.ebay.com, really anywhere but the the horrendous box they try to get you to buy. Yes all the books are needed, but its much cheaper to buy used. So it really comes down to do you want to save money or do you want convenience and get everything at once. That NANDA book will be your life for level 1. Also if you have friends you can definitely share page burst log ins for online books if you want. My roommate and I did that all through nursing school.

-I'm not really sure what you mean how I access the program? like pageburst?

-Is it doable? Yes it is definitely doable. Is it hard? Yes, I can't think of anyone who did not break down into tears last semester. I personally cried like a baby! But thats okay!

-Were there a lot of people who dropped from the class? Don't be scared after what I'm about to say. These are just the facts and numbers. I don't know how many people we started out with, but right now we have 38 people in our graduating class. Most of them failed in level 2 and 3. You just have to focus and get your priorities straight. I can't stress that enough. I don't recommend working full time with this crap they make us do. Think of it as an investment, no income for 2 years and living with parentals or barely getting school wise and work wise for 2+ years. But if you do have to work after your first semester you can be a nurse extern at ETMC and Mothers. Mother's is new so I'm not really sure. But at ETMC you only have to work like 3 shifts a month which is very doable. You can make your schedule too which will come very handy when you try to schedule things around exams and clinical.

I hope all that made sense.

@luckyberries, working at ETMC, do you work as a nurse or patient tech
