UT Tyler nursing spring

Published

Am applying to UT tyler nursing program for spring 2015. Anyone else applying? Feel free to post comments.

I'm going to answer your questions through bullet points

- books: amazon, half.ebay.com, really anywhere but the the horrendous box they try to get you to buy. Yes all the books are needed, but its much cheaper to buy used. So it really comes down to do you want to save money or do you want convenience and get everything at once. That NANDA book will be your life for level 1. Also if you have friends you can definitely share page burst log ins for online books if you want. My roommate and I did that all through nursing school.

-I'm not really sure what you mean how I access the program? like pageburst?

-Is it doable? Yes it is definitely doable. Is it hard? Yes, I can't think of anyone who did not break down into tears last semester. I personally cried like a baby! But thats okay!

-Were there a lot of people who dropped from the class? Don't be scared after what I'm about to say. These are just the facts and numbers. I don't know how many people we started out with, but right now we have 38 people in our graduating class. Most of them failed in level 2 and 3. You just have to focus and get your priorities straight. I can't stress that enough. I don't recommend working full time with this crap they make us do. Think of it as an investment, no income for 2 years and living with parentals or barely getting school wise and work wise for 2+ years. But if you do have to work after your first semester you can be a nurse extern at ETMC and Mothers. Mother's is new so I'm not really sure. But at ETMC you only have to work like 3 shifts a month which is very doable. You can make your schedule too which will come very handy when you try to schedule things around exams and clinical.

I hope all that made sense.

What about the fast track BSN?

I registered for the drug screening exactly as indicated in our packet and supposedly I was supposed to be directed to "enter the drug screening information specific to UT Tyler School of Nursing and finalize the scheduling process."... yet this never happened!? I received confirmation of payment and that was it! (sigh)

I check my email.. nothing. I guess I need to call them tomorrow. Anyone else have this problem?

@Trudy 2017 I did not work at ETMC. I used to work at Mothers as a unit tech, but the schedule was rough, they required half time or full time so I quit to pass my classes. But I know they just redid their nurse extern program so it might work out better for yall. At ETMC you'll also be a nurse tech. With either position you're basically a pca, if you build good relationships with the nurses its a good learning experience.

@magnis472 All the answers are the same except for the last one. I'm not in the fast track, most of my friends that were in it graduated this past summer. It is doable. I honestly do not know anyone in the fast track that had a full time job as they were in it. I know one had a prn job but that was it. She barely worked. The vice president of NSNA is actually a level 2 right now thats in the fast track program. She'll be more equipped to answer your questions in person next week. If you want specific questions answered you can go ahead and ask them here I will do my best to relay them back to you. I know some questions are harder to ask in front of professors than others. Like Kemp is very picky with her care plans, I can never say that to her face. But she tries very very hard to be a good teacher and thats what matters

Thanks a lot! I'm not going to work. Currently, I'm working full time and taking classes full time. It is doable but it is a lot. I want to focus 100% to school. Are we going to receive an invitation to go to orientation next week?

Everytime I try to answer someone on here it tells me the thread is closed?? Lol

I am actually not sure? I think yall were suppose to already have one lol. I think it might just be for the traditional students. They'll be talking about uniforms, competencies and assessment and what not. Oh DO NOT BUY THE LAB COAT! That is the worst mistake of my nursing school life....I look at that thing every day and want my money back.

If it is for the traditional students I don't see the negative aspect if you just pop in and sit down. They don't know who you are yet. It'll be a sneak peak. You an catch us afterwards and ask more specific questions too if you want. I think its from 12:30 till 2.

I could not register online. I actually had to call and they had to email me a new link and the woman that I talked to had to send me my confirmation page.

Thanks a lot luckyberries. Good luck to you as you get ready to graduate and start your carreer.

Thank you! Just remember upper levels are friends, we've been there before, done that before so we are always there to help. :)

@luckyberries, so how do employers see graduates from UT Tyler? I am really trying to make a hard choice between UT Tyler and UTMB. In terms of location, UT Tyler is just 1 hour, 30 minutes away from me unlike UTMB which is 5 hours away. Have some of your mates already secured a job? Again, is it likely that someone can finish the program with a 4.0 gpa? Lastly what is NANDA? Thank you very much

For those in the Accelerated program, how do we accept our admission? Do we have to write to them or just seeing the advisor means, you have accepted your admission?

I just learnt today that we accept our admission when we log in to myuttyler....There is a place where you indicate whether you accept or decline. Its in the sy=tudent center page under admissions
