UT-HSC Fall '06 Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Anyone receive a letter for interviews yet? I hope we all get one!

it's too bad we weren't having a competition to see who had the coldest sweatiest hands! i would have won (wet) hands down. i feel alright about my writing sample. i just wish i knew whether they were more interested in content or quality. too bad we didn't get to watch the groovy ut movie to pump us up before we started. oh well....maybe they only show it to the ones who get in :-)

and now we begin the waiting game......not fun.

I think I did really well on my first essay but Im with you. I wasnt sure if they wanted quality or content, so I went back and forth trying to decide how best to answer the other two questions. I finally just answered point blank and laid it all on the line. I cut it right down to then end and used the whole hour. The next 2 months are gonna suck.

The next 2 months are gonna suck.

agreed.:(

I hope everyone did well on their interviews todayyy! And hopefully everyone had an even better Valentine's Day too :blushkiss

But yes...2 months....of torture....and only 130 of the 500 can make it....aw mannn this really really sucks.

ok. someone pointed out that there are 3 gpas listed on utlink. anyone know what those are all about? which ones do they look at?

(and keep in mind that 130 is enough room for all of us! chins UP!:chuckle )

According to their website, this is the order that they listed them, Im not sure if its the order of their preference though:

1-GPA of all nursing prerequisite courses

2-GPA of science courses only

3-GPA of all courses taken in college

Is that what you meant?

exactly. i wonder what their preference is. if they ignore the "all courses taken" column i look pretty good. i have classes from way back that i got c's in that i'd just assume they not look at. :(

I see what you're saying-just not sure though.

I really can't get a feel for what they are putting more weight behind during this admission process. I can see how after getting 1400+ applicants it would be easier for the school to base everything off of gpa and just take the top X% of the applicants. I would guess that is why they did away with the personal interview-500 personal interviews would take forever. BUT then why give a timed writing sample with a limit of 3 inches of space to write in? Is that an accurate measure of our ability to articulate our thoughts? I wonder if they already know what group they want and are just making sure that they aren't completely illiterate or incapable of basic writing structure, but of course we're all here with high gpa's for a reason....who knows. I could go in circles all day if I let myself do it.

Well as a nurse you are not given a lot of time to make a decision. A lot of your nursing care is based on "independent nursing functions" meaning you are the one caring for your patient without someone telling you what to do. . They are seeing how well you can "respond under pressure" by giving you a set time and space. They don't want to hear the "nonsense"...they want to see how well you can articulate your thoughts without all the BS. I hope I'm not sounding too harsh....I went through the same feeling as you did, but UT is a very tough nursing school and they are trying to prepare you for it.

Good luck to you, I hope you get in

Well, I'm glad you guys have gotten it over with so soon. Tomorrow is my day to go. I agree, with 3" of space, one must decide between quality and quantity. I guess since there is not alot of space to elaborate, all you can do is stick to the cold hard facts. However, I certainly don't want my paragraph to read like a grocery list! Oh well, all we can do is our best. If I don't get in, I'll live vicariously through you guys! :chuckle Well, after I cry on your collective shoulders first! :crying2: :selfbonk: :biere: In the meantime, I'll just have to be nervouse and try not to :barf02:

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for pointing that out. :)
