Hey everyone! I did not see a post for applicants for Ut Austin's Alternate Entry MSN program for 2020, so I started one! I know the application just opened a few days ago but with all everyone balances, I figure why not start now? I am applying for their PMNHP specialty.
It's probably a good thing you haven't heard anything yet. They usually send rejections first then send interview requests. I haven't decided yet. Today is the first day I have actually had time to sit with the news. I'm especially not sure because even though the material learned is almost identical, I'm of course not as passionate about LeaDs as psych so I'm afraid the paper I would have to write won't be of great quality. However, I don't want to just write it off either. I just don't know what to do...

That is a tough decision, I’m sorry. Did you apply to other programs? It sounds like psychiatric is your passion so I hope if you applied elsewhere, you hear positive news! I know you can complete the LeaDS and continue on to PMHNP, but know that’s additional school. They mentioned that in the information session but I’m sure you knew that. It’s a big decision so I can understand how you feel!
@KB417 thank you and yes I considered all of this before I even applied after Tracy informed me of the number of people who apply versus the number that they accept. Essentially, it would take almost 4 years to get a PMHNP and typing that out is making me realize I really don't wanna do that. I'm at an age where I can but I don't want to. I did apply to other schools.

4 years, that is significant! I really hope for positive news for you at the other schools you applied to.
I received an email last Wednesday (the 6th) informing me that my ranking was not high enough to be considered for PMHNP, but that I could be added to the candidate pool for LeaDs - as long as I notified Tracy and wrote a new statement of purpose before the 11th. While I was disappointed to receive the PMHNP rejection, considering the competition, I can't say that it came as a huge surprise... especially since my background is in graphic design. Although LeaDs was not my original choice, it sounds as if the curriculum still aligns with my nursing goals - so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed and checking my email religiously until the next round of emails go out.
Does anyone know the statistics/details behind how many people receive an offer to LeaDs after being rejected from one of the other two programs? For example, does everyone receive the opportunity to apply to LeaDs after a rejection, or is it only offered to individuals who appear to be strong contenders?

I haven’t heard anything yet, checking my email often! It seems varied each year. I’ve read on previous forums that interview emails went out in November, and then one year they went out at the beginning of December.

I’m sorry you received that e-mail! Great to hear they offered you to submit an SOP for LeaDS. I’m not sure of the exact statistics? At the information session, they stated that why the PMHNP seats were so limited is because they only have two or so preceptors versus several for the CNS and LeaDS. Also, it sounds like you were a strong enough contender to be considered for another program! I wish you all of the luck, I know that’s a big decision!

Sorry to hear that. Have you decided on the LEADs program? Anyone else hear anything?
