Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! I did not see a post for applicants for Ut Austin's Alternate Entry MSN program for 2020, so I started one! I know the application just opened a few days ago but with all everyone balances, I figure why not start now? I am applying for their PMNHP specialty.

Congratulations! So excited for you I know you have been waiting for so long! Did everyone see Tracy’s most recent email? Do you really think they’ll postpone Summer classes?

Thank you so much! ? Very excited to begin this journey. I did see Tracy's e-mail, I hope that classes will not be postponed and that the spread will cease. It is making me nervous though.

Hi everyone! Hope all is well with you all ? I wanted to share that I got the official email of admittance to LeaDS this morning and I accepted. Thank you all for reading my countless posts over these few months, your encouragement, and letting me share in the anticipation of this program. Can’t wait to meet you!

OMG! This is the best news I’ve gotten all week. You’re such a kind soul, I know me and many others have been hoping you get in. This is great!! Join the facebook group when you have a chance ? I cannot wait to meet you!

Hi guys I am a little late to the party! I have been admitted into the 2020 AE-MSN program ? I recently just requested to join the group on facebook as well!

Hi guys! I would message some of you individually but my account is relatively new! I plan on applying to CNS next year but I just had some questions on formatting for the CV! How exactly did you guys format it to look presentable? I'm not the biggest fan of double spacing so it looks rather odd to me! Also, what do you think helped stand out?

CONGRATS to everyone who was accepted to the program this year! I'm recently wrapping up the first year and headed in NCLEX season and LEADS in the fall.

I’m going to apply to this program next year for PMHNP. I just graduated with my bachelors in psychology and now I am trying to get work experience in Austin for mental health related careers while I finish up my prerequisites for the program. Does anyone have suggestions on what jobs I should apply for to look good for my application to the UT next year.

Hey guys,

I have the time so I’m just posting this here for people who are applying for future cycles and lurking in the older threads. I applied to the psych track of UT’s AEMSN for the 2020 cycle. Before I start sharing my stats, let me preface by saying I did not get into the Psych track, but I did get into the Leads track.

So I had an undergraduate Psychology degree from UT with a minor in Biology. I did my prereqs at a handful of different places, some UT, some community colleges. I also took a gap year after graduating.

Overall GPA: 3.66

Prereq GPA: 4.0

GRE: 307

I felt pretty good about my recommendations but obvi don’t know what they said.

As for extracurriculars/experience:

Volunteered in Austin State Hospital’s Specialty Services Unit for two years.

Research Assistant at UT Institute for Mental Health Research for one year.

Shadowed a PMHNP at Bluebonnet Trails Community Services in Round Rock.

Began Scribing by the time I submitted my application.

I was in a psych honors club at UT.

Had a couple service jobs during my time in undergrad/gap year.

So I did get an interview which took place about mid December. It consisted of a group Q&A/Introduction, a few short essays, and a one on one interview with a faculty member. Two groups of 12 were interviewed in one day. Within 24 hours I was told my application would be moved to LEADs if I wished. I was very taken aback my the turnaround time considering how extensive the interview process was, but I wasn’t about to close a door on myself so I said yes. The common interview questions they used are on this thread and I feel like I did prepare thoroughly.

I’m not posting this to discourage anyone applying to the psych track at all. UT has very limited spots for their psych track so they may just be looking for different things every cycle. Psych was very important to me so I turned down my LEADs spot and I am attending a different Psych AEMSN program in the northeast. It’s out of my comfort zone but Ioving it. Don’t limit your options good luck everyone!
