UT Austin Alternate Entry 2020

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! I did not see a post for applicants for Ut Austin's Alternate Entry MSN program for 2020, so I started one! I know the application just opened a few days ago but with all everyone balances, I figure why not start now? I am applying for their PMNHP specialty.

I do, too, I need to stop checking so much. That’s amazing you were accepted into a PMHNP program! Congratulations! I’m curious since I’ve obviously not received an acceptance email- if you officially accepted, can you go back and say “no?”

Thank you! That’s a super good question I feel like I have an awkward position because in my acceptance email to leads (other accepted people— let me know if this was in your message too) it said something like accepting your spot isn’t exactly binding like you don’t have to put down a deposit or anything; just email Tracy if you change your mind! But it could be just because I was waitlisted for PMHNP so it would be kinda unfair to force me into LeaDs when that’s not what I want.

That’s good to know, I’ve heard of other schools requiring a deposit so UT helps it be less stressful in that regard with your decision and if something happens to come up prior to the program. Have you emailed Tracy about your PMHNP waitlist spot? I know those are far more limited than LeaDS and maybe less movement.

Once you’ve officially accepted... it’s not binding. You can say no, but Tracy just wants to know ASAP so someone else can be given that spot.

Exactly. Yeah I don’t want to reach out quite yet because I don’t know how many spots we have in the PMHNP program we’ll have this year. I don’t wanna push it at all especially since she’s made it clear she doesn’t want extra emails... She said between 1-4 students on the waitlist end up getting a spot in PMHNP.

That is understandable, the seat amount is so small, I hope you hear something very soon!

It’s a new week! Anyone else hear back from being waitlisted?

Not yet, still waiting to hear back for LeaDS, number two on the waitlist. Hoping to hear good news, UT is the only place I applied and LeaDS is my dream. What about you?

Radio silence. In the meantime, are you planning on doing the BLS/CPR courses while you wait? Or are you waiting until after you are accepted? ?

Not yet, I am waiting until (possible) acceptance. Chances are becoming more slim these days.

P.S. I remember you mentioned not e-mailing Tracy for an update on your PMHNP waitlist status. From what I understand, she didn't want e-mails prior to official decisions going out. Unless she said something different to PMHNP candidates? I have e-mailed three times between January and February and she has been very responsive and helpful. Not sure if that will help ease your wait, but knowing where you stand on the waitlist has been helpful for me at least in regards to planning.

I emailed her. Unfortunately, all the PMHNP spots have been filled.

Oh, I’m sorry! I remember you saying that was your top choice. It is amazing how far you made it, knowing the very limited seats and selectivity. I know you were a remarkable candidate, which is evident in you being accepted to other amazing schools. Do you know which way you’re leaning now?

Head up! More spots will surely open up once it comes time to pay. Tuition is insane for us out of state folk. Meanwhile start working on your app for next year... we are all rooting for you!! Accepting your spot isn’t binding and there’s still a lot of time between now and start time.
