UT Austin Alternate Entry 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hey everyone! I did not see a post for applicants for Ut Austin's Alternate Entry MSN program for 2020, so I started one! I know the application just opened a few days ago but with all everyone balances, I figure why not start now? I am applying for their PMNHP specialty.

Did anyone else get an email with a background check request? I just received mine but my interview is later today so I’m just a little surprised!

I just got that e-mail, too, but my interview was last Thursday.

I got one as well! My interview is next week. I’m sure they prefer to do background checks before they admit people to weed anyone out that may not actually qualify.

Last year’s forum and the one prior to that, they requested background/fingerprints after the interviews. Maybe they’re getting ahead and speeding things up? Either way, any communication regarding this is good with me ? Good luck on your interviews today and next week, so exciting!

Thank you! This is a great group of people we have here, I hope we all make it! I will definitely update everyone with how it goes ?

CNS interviewees - how do you think it went? I had mine already - and as time goes on, I think of things I should have said differently. I think this is normal (right?), but it sure does cloud my view of how it went from the eyes of the interviewers. I am curious if all the CNS interviews are done now or are people still interviewing? I was told they would accept 11-12 people.

I’m a bit unsure on my interview. I thought it was going well until they expressed what I was describing as my desire for the field sounded more related to leads. I literally was pulling key words from my purpose statement. Why would I be interviewed for CNS if my purpose statement was more geared more towards leads? I’m suspicious certain words I was using such as “hands on” was being misinterpreted.

I do think they are done with the first round for the CNS interviews. Based on a previous comment that g0994 mentioned on Friday-28 applicants were being interviewed. The interview link only has 3 open spots left, so 27 applicants signed up using Doodle. I’m assuming that if they find the 12 or so applicants they are looking for and they all pass their background check, interviews are done.

I’m curious if everyone interviewed for the CNS was thrown the leads bone. It could be a behavioral question to see our reactions. Who knows?

Hey everyone,

I interviewed for CNS program on Monday morning and let me tell you they were awesome but I was a flustered mess. I did not do well, probably won't get an acceptance based on my answers but I want to help out everyone else who will be interviewing.

Make sure you know exactly why you want to be a nurse and why a master's prepared nurse specifically, rather than a BSN. Also make sure that you know the difference between a CNS and a NP (this what got me). Have a couple stories or situations where you had to handle stressful situations, or "went against a supervisor" (that's what they asked me), and make sure that you have at least 10 questions written down to ask them. Just in case they go over ones you had at the beginning of the interview.

Otherwise you all got this! You're a great group! Good luck!

Wish I read this earlier! My CNS interview was Wednesday afternoon and this information would have helped! I’m surprised I didn’t get the NP question.

I just got my interview request for LeaDS this morning. Just FYI for anyone who hasn’t gotten an email yet. They’re still sending them out! Any pointers from any of y’all who have done the LeaDS interview already? I’m scheduled for Monday afternoon with Jessica. Thanks!

Im applying for LEADS in the 2020 cycle. I had a question about when the program notifies applicants of acceptance or rejection. I am also applying for a second degree BSN as a back up. So i do not want start dates clashing once I apply.

Congratulations and All the best wishes to you for the interview. Share us with how it goes.

Alright, I just finished up my LeaDS interview! It went well, although we had some technical issues that cut into our time. They asked:

- Why did I want to be a master's prepared nurse?

- How does masters degree nursing fit into my goals?

- How do I think the moral and ethical responsibilities of a masters prepared nurse differ from other levels of nursing?

- Describe a time you had to ask for help and how you went about it

- Describe a time you were met with a challenge, how you took charge of the situation and how it felt to be a leader in that situation.

The professors were very kind and I know we will all be in great hands going into this program. It was described to me as a 60-hour a week commitment, which I was a little shocked by. I expected it to be at least equivalent to a full time job, but nothing in my research about this program has led me to think it would be that rigorous. So to whoever gets in - best of luck!
