UT AE MSN 2015

Published

Hi all! I know this is a bit early, considering the application doesn't even go live until August 1, but UT is my number one school for Nursing. I just graduated from UGA with a BS in Psychology, and have around a 3.5 GPA. I have yet to take the GRE. I also am going to get a CNA certification and work for a year (hopefully in MedSurg) as well as shadow a family friend who is a Pediatric nurse. Many years before us have started a thread so I figured it would be a good idea to start one! I would really like to go into their Nurse Practitioner program, but as of right now there are some changes going on that said would be solidified in the fall.

Any feedback would be wonderful! As well as personal experience and what not!

AustinTex.....Yes you can buy scrubs....and I'm not kidding. I promised myself years ago when I was applying to medical school when I got in I got burnt orange scrubs....so yes I'm getting those!!!! Congrats!

Anyone else considering moving to Austin from out-of-state?

@hakhama yes! I would be moving from the east coast. It's a big move (I need to hire and train someone to take over my job, find an apartment in Austin, drive cross-country), but I'm excited for it. The most daunting thing for me right now is that we need to accept our spots before obtaining financial aid information. When I called to ask admissions about the timeline for funding decisions, I was told this information would not be "sent until close to the start date." How are others considering this?

Honestly, I think it's safest to accept it and back out after if needed. It's unfortunate but I'm sure they have a wait list and do it this way intentionally. I have the same issue because I haven't heard back from all my schools yet and need to compare financial aid.

Would anyone happen to know when the semester starts, and / or dates of orientation?

First day of class is June 5th according to our acceptance letter. Its a Friday, so I wonder if we do some type of orientation that day.

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone remember what CPR certification we have to get?

Thanks!

I'm not sure which one we need, but here is where we can do it on campus:

I'm in California. What about you, hakhama?

Guys,

Heads up, Tracy sent out the email regarding scholarship applications. Deadline is March 6th!

@ Utvault - Sorry, I can't send PMs, guess I'm not active enough. I have decided to pursue the leads program. I was very close to making the cut for NP. I'm not holding my breath for admission but crazier things have happened.

Does anyone have an idea what the dropout rates are for this program. I heard it was really low.

It sounds like we make one application and we will be considered for several different scholarships? I have been looking for some good scholarships. I would think I would be able to find one given my specialty.....its usually not a popular one. Anyone have any recommendations on where to look? Simply searching Google tends to give me thousands of bogus sites.

Thanks! terrified/excited/intimidated to start this program!

Hi Hashi,

I know that 2 people dropped from the psych NP route this year, but otherwise the drop rates are very low.

Since you decided to pursue the leads program are you still on the NP waitlist? Or did you have to accept Leads and take yourself away from the NP running?

The financial aid stuff is freaking me out as we close on our house in 13 days!
