UT AE MSN 2015

Published

Hi all! I know this is a bit early, considering the application doesn't even go live until August 1, but UT is my number one school for Nursing. I just graduated from UGA with a BS in Psychology, and have around a 3.5 GPA. I have yet to take the GRE. I also am going to get a CNA certification and work for a year (hopefully in MedSurg) as well as shadow a family friend who is a Pediatric nurse. Many years before us have started a thread so I figured it would be a good idea to start one! I would really like to go into their Nurse Practitioner program, but as of right now there are some changes going on that said would be solidified in the fall.

Any feedback would be wonderful! As well as personal experience and what not!

Utvault,

I am still wait listed for the NP program. From what I understand had I not taken the leads offer I would be removed from the wait list for NP. So I guess there are three ways I can move up the wait list for NP; applicants decline the offer, the three people ahead of me on the wait list refuse the leads offer and are dropped from the NP wait list or seats open up after the foundation year.

I still need to figure out my living situation. Right now I guess I am going to commute the summer semester from round rock. Might take advantage of the metro rail for that. After summer I need to figure out a way to live on the extreme cheap. I was looking for some kind of grad school student roommate finder. My folks also suggested house sitting for some professors on sabbatical, guess they knew students who had done that.

Hashi,

So as far as living....in about 2 weeks I might have ideas or an option for you. But yeah the commute from RR downtown is kinda horrible.... I live south so I drive north and its not nearly as bad. But then again for the fall you have no idea what/where you will get clinicals. I'm just nervous about the aid they give out.

I am also so nervous about the financial aid situation! I am terrified of not having a job. I didn't see anywhere on the financial aid form to show that I will be unemployed, so according to my taxes, it looks like I'm able to afford to pay for school myself for the most part, which is NOT the case. Oh geez.....!!!

On a different topic, my friend who started OT school this year said that all the new students started a Facebook group to keep up with different things that are going on. I actually got off of Facebook (and I don't miss it much) in October, but would consider getting back on for this. Should we start one? :D And, then maybe at some point before school starts we can work on getting a group together for a happy hour (or whatever) so we can all meet!

Yes come back and start a facebook group and ill join!!! That would be great to keep up with. I'm going to start researching scholarships or maybe stand on the side of the road holding a sign that says "trying to pay for graduate school" who knows...

Haha! Great idea! I'll make some signs, too. ;) Okay, I'll try to start it tonight! I'll post back here after it's started and has a name so you all can search for it.

Perfect.....and if I see u on the road with a grad school sign ill give you some money just because it would be awesome! I wonder how much I legitimately could get.....

It doesn't seem right that decisions would be due before we receive financial aid information. Hopefully we hear about financial aid before Feb. 20th!

Went ahead and started the group already! It's called University of Texas Nursing (AE-MSN 2015). I made it a closed group, so I guess people will be able to request to join, but I'm not too sure how this works.

Anyone looking into the possibility of university apartments? It's a really good deal, it looks like.

Austintex, I was looking for the group but can't find it on FB.

I was looking into the student housing for UT. It does look like a good deal.

Hey Hashi,

How do you know where you were ranked? I thought they didn't give out that info. I looked for FB page also and couldn't find it.

Hi Carla,

I wasn't sure if they would but I just called and asked. Not sure if anyone else found out that easily.
