Hello all! This will be my second time applying to USF's nursing program and I am very anxious because I was rejected last semester even with stellar grades and experience.
Stats:
Overall GPA: 3.76
Science GPA: 3.92
Only have one core class left to complete. I did not take philosophy yet.
92 transferrable units; 3 AA degrees (finished all my lower GE), ER Department hospital and school volunteer, clinical research, job shadowing, working part-time as a tutor, only 19 years old.

I do attend USF. I really like the program. The school is in a nice part of SF and everyone is super nice. Currently all our lectures are remote with some in person clinical. Every program has its positives and negatives, but I think its up to you to decide if its worth it and what you take away from the program. Currently, USF is doing a lot of renovations that you can enjoy soon. Overall, if you are deciding to attend USF I would suggest to you to take as much core classes as you can. It would that bump up your registration date and lighten up your workload in the future. Best of luck!
Thanks for your response! May I ask what was it that helped you commit to USF? Did you have acceptances to other schools? I am currently comparing Samuel Merritt, USF, and cal state East bay. The main thing holding me back about USF is that it’s 3 years and can’t be sped up. So id be spending 50k more than at SMU. Do you feel like the quality of the education you have been receiving (especially during the pandemic) justifies the high price tag?

Hi!
The points you bring up are very valid. I was accepted to another nursing program, however USF has always been my dream school due to personal reasons why. I also wanted to do a 3 year program because I wanted to take a break during the Summer because its super easy to get burnt out. Trust me, nursing classes are on a different level compare to pre-requisite. I feel like the quality of education is the same as other programs out there since everyone is doing remote learning right now. It sucks that we weren't able to get a discount for it, but from what I know no other school has given a discount because everything is online. I personally love my school and my professors. I hate to sound like a broken record, but its honestly up to you to weigh out the pros and cons. I would look at the distance it is from your house/ where would you stay, what is in the curriculum, the NCLEX passing rate, the various hospitals the school is partner with, how long is the program is, cost to attend, cost of the area around the school, and which school you really connect to. Hope this helps! Congratulations on getting accepted.

This definitely does help. I think I will make a spreadsheet comparing them and go from there. Thank you for your thoughtful insight, I appreciate it. I wish you a speedy road towards graduation!!
Honestly, I think all the schools you got into are amazing. However, every programs have their pros and cons. It's what you put into program is what you receive when you are done. USF definitely has a different approach, Jesuit tradition, to how they want you to approach a patient. Before I got accepted, I toured the campuses that I applied to and was trying to envision myself living there. Some schools will feel just right and some may feel off. Trust your gut. It really sucks that you can't tour the nursing building and our SIM lab. Best of luck and enjoy this time before the grind starts up again.

I actually have not heard back yet from USF. I should be hearing back in December. I am currently waitlisted at East bay for fall 2021 (which is currently my top choice due to price and location). I applied to SMU for Spring but was rejected due to the competitive applicant pool. I’m a bit surprised I was able to get waitlisted at a state school that took less people and had more overall applications, but not get into a private that took more and had less applications. I have a 3.8 pre req GPA, over 200 hours of healthcare volunteer experience, bilingual, multiple academic honors, experience tutoring and as a Sunday school teacher. I now worry this will not be enough for USF. It seems private schools have a strange way of analyzing apps. Anyways, I plan on reapplying to SMU so I’m trying to get a general idea of between SMU and USF which I would prefer. *I also got a LOR for USF
Hi all - I just applied to USF’s BSN program for fall ‘21 on a whim. I got my M.A. at USF in 2003. My first choice is college of Marin, but I just wanted to apply to one more program so that I didn’t put all my hopes on one school! Would love to know everyone’s decision since this thread first started?
