  1. I know this is early, as I'm just starting my RN program, however I'm wondering if it is even possible to find a job that does not require overnights or early morning starts right out of nursing school? I am absolutely not opposed to working these shifts eventually, but my kids are too young to get themselves to school, etc. I would actually LOVE to work in the ER, but my husband's job requirements/hours and my kids ages prohibit me from pursuing that right out of nursing school. My husband is an aortic aneurysm device rep, so his job is basically on-call all the time. Not only does he have scheduled surgeries in the OR that can start very early, but if there is ever a rupture, he has to drop everything and go to whatever hospital he is asked to in a very large metropolitan area, day or night. Due to my husband's job responsibilities, it restricts my ability to work outside of regular hours until my kids are able to handle being home alone (will probably be a solid 5 or 6 years before that is possible since they are in Kindergarten and 2nd grade now). I don't want to look like a "princess" right out of school, but I'm worried I will have a hard time finding a job since it seems like most nursing jobs require night shifts or 6am starts?? Any advice or areas of specialty that I can focus on early to help me get to work after school would be great! I am doing a BSN program.

It was an email. No letter. Check your spam/junk folder too just to be sure. This is just the first round of acceptances. Over the next month they will continue sending emails. The time limit to accept is relatively short. I believe I had until Monday to accept or decline. So the next round of emails should probably go out next week I think?

Thank you! I sent them an email. I am opting to go to College of Marin. They have a bridge BSN program with Sonoma state (or University of Phoenix) during the 2nd year, and the cost is substantially less, and I will finish 1 semester earlier than USF’s program. I also live in Marin so the commute for classes and labs will be a bit easier too.

They sent it to both - only because I think I have my COM email set up to also forward to my personal email (I took all my prerequisites at COM)

I just got an acceptance email today! They are giving us until Monday to confirm or pass. I had 86 points.

No, someone told me that they don’t actual send out a point confirmation email. They just send acceptances and I think they might state what points you had in that email. That’s what’s so nerve wracking! You never know if you totally filled out the application correctly and get credit for all the points you think you have. Hopefully not much longer. They did say they still plan on late April, I was just trying to get them to narrow it down

Nope. I did get a financial aid notification but nothing from the school of nursing. I emailed them last week and they said they still didn’t have a specific date that they were sending out acceptances.

I'm a little confused because I got 10k scholarship, but I also applied for FAFSA and when I log in to my student portal it doesn't show me being awarded anything for FAFSA!??? I definitely can't fund this entire education without financial aid so I'm not sure what's up with that. I think they send a packet in the mail in a couple of weeks that has financial details, etc. Also I do have to do 7 units in core credits since I'm a transfer student, so I'm still waiting to hear from my 1st choice school, since it's cheaper and I won't have to do those additional core credits at my 1st choice, so it's likely that my spot may open up to someone on the WL in the next few weeks . . . . They give us until May 15th to pay the deposit and confirm we accept.

(MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) (the counselor who seems to deal with most nursing applicants) told me a month or so ago that they should start sending out decisions "early April or so". I only applied to one other school (COM) and they aren't sending out decisions until LATE April! So both schools are taking a looooooong time to let us know.

Seems promising! They must be interested considering they want to know all your details 😃

Agh! OK phew I got worried for a sec too @paintingrain 😅.
  13. This is a weird question, but do nursing schools tend to only accept specific color scrubs? I was browsing scrubs sites and realized there are quite a lot of color options: including different shades of blue!! I thought about purchasing some - but then realized “maybe the school that I (hopefully) get in to only wants nursing students wearing a specific color??” My husband is a device rep - and I know that many hospitals require different color scrubs as well as colors depending on if you are a vendor, nurse, etc ... so it seems plausible that nursing students may have assigned colors 😁
  14. @TarynV that’s great that you can just focus on school! If you get an A in Physio and pass chem how many points will that get you? More than the 5 for CNA? If the points you get are much higher for Anna in Physio, I would just take Physio by itself so you can focus 100% on that class. Once you get an a then you can take Chem and be less stressed.
  15. I was doing my pre req's (one at a time because I work and had young kids at the time). There were a few people in my Physio class that took Physio and Chem at the same time. I thought they were crazy! Not sure how well they did, because that is A LOT of material to study and recall at the same time! So your situation also depends on a lot: are you able to just go to school and not work? Or do you also have other responsibilities while taking two pre req's at the same time? If getting an A in both classes would give you more points on your total GPA upon applying to nursing school over having a CNA, I would go one at a time on those classes. I have a 20+year old chem class that I was able to use for the two schools I applied to that I only got a C in, but I got an A in all my other pre reqs that it was enough to bump me up. IF I don't get in to one of the schools I applied to this round, then I will re-take chem to get a better grade, but only if I HAVE to!!

    TEAS test before class completion

I just randomly chose two of their practice exams. I don't think it matters which one(s) you choose. I think there are 4 different practice exams and I just picked 2 of them. They are full practice exams, so they include all sections just like the real test. The format was super helpful. I don't think any of the questions were exact questions from the actual test that I took, but the type of questions were very similar and it was similar enough that it REALLY helped me I think.
