Kaiser NorCal Nurse Residency Fall 2023 Cohort 6
The truck is really to be yourself and reheorifice your presentation like crazy! I have very little Kaiser clinical experience, but my presentation was well-reheorificed and so it came out naturally. I didn't just read my presentation, and I really tried to show who I was and my background. I also tried to make sure that I followed the rubric they offer for the presentation and that I was covering the highest point possibility that they show for each section. I also included the Kaiser mission statement but I "folded" it in to my presentation, rather than just stating their mission/values statement and claiming that I also align with those values. It seems way more authentic if you can do it in your own way ?. Also my presentation was only about 8 minutes, so don't think you have to use up the full ten minutes!!

Kaiser NorCal New Grad Residency 2023 (Spring Cohort 5)
Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well in your residencies! I am in cohort 6 and will be starting in just over a month. Can anyone tell me what the FIRST week is like? I'm assuming it's mostly new employee orientation etc. Is there much floor exposure? Or mostly educational stuff and shadowing etc? Trying to get an idea what the FIRST few shifts are like as I have heard they're a little different than the rest of the orientation period for new grad residents? Thank you!

What facility has that policy? I'm curious! I'm not 100% sure if the details of Kaiser yet, but as a new grad resident I do t expect to be able to take much, if any vacation for at least the first 6 months!! Everything is seniority based at Kaiser, so you may put in for vacation during high demand vacation periods, but you may not get it approved until you reach a certain level of seniority. That's my understanding this far at least.

Kaiser NorCal Nurse Residency Fall 2023 Cohort 6
@ALaw awww that's nice! But I didn't mention anything about my Kaiser rotation, and everyone else did, so I think that could work against me ?. Yes, I remember you!! I thought your presentation and experience were AWESOME too! I hope we BOTH get it and end up working at the same location ??

Kaiser NorCal Nurse Residency Fall 2023 Cohort 6
Phew ? interviews are done and now the agonizing WAIT begins!! How is everyone feeling?? I thought all of the candidates on my panel were GREAT. I remember the coordinator mentioning that decisions are July 10th (a couple of days before the posted schedule indicated), but then offers don't go out until about the 17th ... Does that mean we are waiting to hear back until around the 17th? Or will we get some sort of notification around the 10th? It was a blur by the end, so I don't recall all the details after the presentations were done!!

Congrats! Did the phone call say "unknown caller", or was it a phone number? I just kissed a phone call about 15 min ago from an unknown caller but they didn't leave a message! I hope it wasn't Stanford ?. I'm still assuming I wasn't chosen but glad to hear they're still calling people!!

Stanford Nurse Residency August 2023 Cohort 39
@ikerr so well said! I was totally emotionally worn out the rest of the day after the interview. There were a couple of questions that I had to "wing it" on, and they may not have been the greatest answer, but like you said: we aren't perfect and we ARE students with very little clinical experience, so we just have to try to be our authentic selves, and hope that the fit is right. I am also chalking it up to experience, and knowing that I will end up wherever I am supposed to be. Just do those interviews and apply and let the chips fall where they may!!

Congrats to those with a 2nd interview! Yeah it's probably more like 1 out of 5 will be chosen for a 2nd interview ... it would be too hard to choose just one from each group if there were say, 3 really strong candidates and different managers from different units were interested in each? I just interviewed for surgical div 2 yesterday afternoon and I agree I was fried after! The experience was great though, no matter what happens.

Kaiser NorCal Nurse Residency Fall 2023 Cohort 6
I believe you just have to have your license 30 days prior to your start date, which would be around Aug 11th. You may have a tough time getting a test date by then if you are graduating in August though? They will have another cohort in the Spring if the timing is t quite right this cohort?

Newgradnurse39 - Kaiser Northern California has their new grad nurse residency open right now. I think it closes on the 7th of June. I don't have the direct link but if you Google it I'm sure the info page will pop up. You can choose a few of your preferred locations if you get to tge interview portion I believe. You do have to create a power point presentation for the interview, and they also prioritize having taken an EKG course.

Kaiser NorCal New Grad Residency 2023 (Spring Cohort 5)
Hello all! I hope you're settling in to your new grad positions by now! I am an applicant in the upcoming cohort 6. My question to you all is: are you on an 8 hour or 12 hour shift? I had always assumed I would be working a 12 hour shift since that's the most common nurse schedule, but I realize that a lot of Kaiser shifts are 8s. Is med/surg tele normally 8 or 12? Thanks!

Preceptorship with no assigned preceptor?
Thank you! I will definitely use your advice, and I had never thought of trying to draw experience from different nurses who possess different strengths! I want to make the best of this situation, and this gives me a game-plan for my remaining 4-1/2 weeks. Many of the nurses are also travelers, but at least I can take valuable morsels of experience and tips from nurses who come from all different areas of the country and experience backgrounds.

PACU preceptorship - will this restrict my new grad options??
OK thank you! That actually makes me feel better. I will just put my hours in to complete this last rotation, and focus on passing NCLEX.
