Hi fellow soon-to-be-hopefully nurses! I recently applied to USF's MSN-CNL for non-nurses. I am ecstatic about this program! Any fellow applicants in the anxiously waiting boat?!?
Hello, prospective USF students! I am a current student in my third semester at the OC campus and thought I'd drop by to answer any questions you may have about the program in an attempt to bring you some clarity during this stressful time. Ask away!
I already know one question you all probably have is when you can expect to hear if you got accepted or not.. I got a big envelope in the mail somewhere between June 17-20th (I can't remember exactly) telling me I was accepted, so I would assume it will be the same for you. I know there were some people in my class who called some time in the week leading up to that and were informed over the phone that they were accepted.
Not a problem! I'm in my third semester, so my cohort has one day of med/surg clinicals and 2 days of lecture. Our clinical rotations are split in to 3 groups at 3 different hospitals (UCI, St. Joseph, and St. Francis) and our lectures are med/surg, nursing research, leadership, and a CNL class. So far, my most memorable moments have been in the clinical settings. One of the best parts about this branch campus is that we have partnerships with some pretty awesome hospitals in the area including UCI, St. Jude, St. Joseph, and Children's Hospital LA, among others. I can't think of a single most memorable moment, but my time at CHLA, especially in their cardiothoracic ICU, was awesome and I got to see and do a lot there. As far as the feeling of possibly getting hired post-graduation, it is hard to say. What I do know, though, is that graduating with an MSN from a reputable school like USF will definitely look good on an application and increase your chances of getting hired. Right now I am more focused on just learning as much as I can, getting good grades, and putting myself in a good position to pass the NCLEX next Spring.
I work part time on the side (about 16 hours/week) and I still have time for a social life as well. I would not recommend working full time while in the program, but with 4 days off/week it is definitely doable to have a job while in school without going completely crazy.
I do not remember seeing a status change on the portal, sorry!

To be honest, I'm not sure if I will. I only applied to this program and another one. They both have pros and cons about them and are pretty "neck and neck" in terms of which one id go with. I think I'd need to hear from both before I make a decision you know? But that's just me! :-)
