USF MSN-CNL non-nurse summer 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone! I am currently waitlisted in the spring 2017 cohort starting in Jan for the USF MSN-CNL non-nurse cohort 23, but I wanted to start a thread for those of you applying to the summer 2017 semester because if I don't get off the waitlist I will be reapplying for summer, and if I do get off the waitlist I can help you all with info on how the process works and what to expect. Either way, since I am going through it right now, I hope to be able to help new applicants. This time can be very stressful. Who all out there is applying?

regarding aid, when i called USF onestop financial aid, it seemed they didn't know what to do with me - the person i talked with didn't realize our program starts in may. myUSF says i have cost of attendance calculated and outstanding requirements. my aid is messed up, so i don't know what it will be like for others. maybe that's why i could apply for grad plus loan, i don't now. they have me down as a law student. i was admitted to USF law several years ago...so i'm guessing that's the issue. who knows...

Please keep us updated on this! When I spoke to Onestop, they had advised me to fill out the Loan Addendum form for summer 2017 aid, they said if I had not received any loans prior that I would be able to use the full year amount of unsubsidized loans to cover this semester's fees. From there, apply for the Grad Plus Loan in July.. This is what they had advised me when I called them about a month ago,I had also notified them that I had not yet been accepted yet and that the program starts in May. I am just wondering now that I am accepted if they can give me more answers and/or if their advice with financial aid and loans will stay the same.

i was told they would transfer my stuff to to financial aid in the school of nursing, but myUSF still indicates i'm a law student. i'll call again next week if it doesn't update and i'll keep you all in the loop.

Hi Gabe,

so you do the pee test at home it gives you results and then you send the results to the lab? Sorry confused lol and I'll be on several trips all throughout this and next month!

Thanks

you'll set up an account with castlebranch and you can find a lab location online through labcorp to take the drug test at one of their locations. i guess they're all over the US. that's what i did. you go into one of their labs and they administer the test and upload the results when they're available.

Thank you gabe! Sorry for all the questions. I will figure it out - have a lot going on in the next couple months and there's so much to take care of :woot:

look forward to meeting you

@gabe thanks for posting those links! Very helpful to get us started. I'm out of town til the end of this week so I won't get to open the acceptance letter til then. Weird how yours took so long to arrive!

also, does anyone know if there's already a Facebook group for our cohort?

scholarship opportunity: NURSE Corps Scholarship Program | Bureau of Health Workforce

this is an awesome need-based scholarship i ran across through work to promote economically disadvantaged student entry into healthcare and to increase healthcare access to underserved populations. as i understand the language and application process, direct entry MSN nursing programs - ours resulting in a RN generalist - will qualify under tier one consideration. my understanding, if you meet the eligibility requirements, then you will be funded if you have a FAFSA estimated family contribution less than $5-some-odd-K.

good luck to those applying.

Just came back from my vacation. Super exited to know that more people got accepted! Congrats to you all~! And thank you Gabriel for all the helpful information. You are expert for everything lol. Can't wait to see you my dear fellows!

How about our Facebook group? Has anyone already created one?

for anyone wondering about Grad Plus loans, apparently USF is currently accepting applications for the 2016-17 academic year - not for 2017-18 until APR 15; however, financial aid advised me today not to apply for the current year until cost of attendance is calculated for the SUMMER 2017 term. i'm not sure whether anyone else is seeing any changes within myUSF financial aid - mine is messed up. :p

i was actually informed NOT to apply for the 2016-17 SUMMER 2017 (oops, already done), because there is an issue with my status - they have Law school cost of attendance numbers instead of ME-MSN.

It's OK Gabriel, as the Financial Aid office originally just gives everyone a general amount of COA. No matter what graduate program you are enrolled, 33860 is the fixed number. So everyone in our program has to hand in the request for adjustment. The priority date for financial aid processing was in Feb, so supposedly, we have to wait for a long time for the result, maybe after the first day of school.
