USF MSN-CNL non-nurse summer 2017

Published

Hello everyone! I am currently waitlisted in the spring 2017 cohort starting in Jan for the USF MSN-CNL non-nurse cohort 23, but I wanted to start a thread for those of you applying to the summer 2017 semester because if I don't get off the waitlist I will be reapplying for summer, and if I do get off the waitlist I can help you all with info on how the process works and what to expect. Either way, since I am going through it right now, I hope to be able to help new applicants. This time can be very stressful. Who all out there is applying?

Hundreds, if not thousands, of applicants competing for 32 seats. Just incredible. The small student to instructor ratio is one of the many reasons I want to attend USF.

Hi everyone, I'm late to the party in here but definitely playing the waiting game with all of you...

Hello everyone! also late to the party...i've been following this thread. previously commented on the last application periods..last application period i was denied admission...recvd the denial 5 weeks after the application period had closed..have not heard anything for this application yet..literally check the status and my phone every two seconds. I have slowly acquired anxiety over the entire process and waiting game.

@aposs I totally agree and that's one of the reasons I went with Samuel Merritt! @gabe seriously?? That's crazy! It has always been 36. Even when I looked up the class schedule last semester for everyone the classes had 36 spots. I wonder if this is the first semester they are down sizing?? SMU had 24 seats for the ELMSN case management and 24 seats for the ELMSN FNP. isnt it crazy how small the class sizes are? And yes, they don't tell anyone how many people they have on the waitlist, one of the many frustrations for me from last semester. But I'm guessing they have AT LEAST enough to fill an entire cohort, possibly more. For SMU they had like 50 people on the waitlist for FNP and only 10 or so for the CM. Idk how schools decide these things, so weird.

@jessjo welcome back I remember you from last cycle!

@jcali welcome to the group! :)

aftonheistand thank you! and congrats on SMU!! I'll be applying there next(if USF doesn't work out..again....) after taking interpersonal communication.. i found out too late that speech didn't suffice.

maybe the 32 seat reference was an error while typing. that number was used by erin in the q&a chat section, not the actual presentation.

@afton I would definitely not want to be in the pool of people responsible for reviewing applications and deciding who gets in and who doesn't. Johns Hopkins has 140 students in the fall cohort, split between 2 sections. If I do decide to go there I am a little worried about the large student to instructor ratio.

It's hard to say because Johns Hopkins is such an amazing school, I'm sure it will be an amazing program!!!! @aposs

@jessjo I'm currently taking interpersonal comm and lifespan development psych for SMU. Seems like they were the only nursing program who needed these extra classes so I was putting it off! Hoping this round works out for you with usf!!

@gabe ya hard to say what exactly is going on with the seats. Let me go check and see if the summer schedule is up yet on my usf account!

@afton..yeah I had everything ready to apply for the april deadline..and then come to realize I did not have that class..I tried to ask if I could have it waived some how because I have a Masters degree..but they weren't having it haha. Oh well.fingers crossed for USF this time around.

@jess I highly recommend the interpersonal communication course at Merritt College (through Peralta). It took it as a hybrid online course (I think we had class 3 or 4 times) and the professor was amazing!
