Hi! Anyone applying for USF (University of South Florida) ABSN for 2017? I can't seem to find anyone!
UsfAlum: Well, although I felt like USF was more organized with their application process and is definitely competitive with UF's ABSN program, the decision was made for me because I didn't get into UF's program. My undergrad GPA at UF (from 14 years ago) killed me. I was devastated at the time but I truly believe things work out how they're supposed to because 1. I live in the Tampa area and had come to realize I wanted to stay here and 2. Yesterday we found out my mom (who lives in the Tampa area and is receiving care at Moffitt) has cancer. I'm not trying to give a sob story - only trying to give hope to those who are upset. It will work out the way it's supposed to, I promise. All of your hard work will pay off!
Has anybody else exceeded the excess hours? I am already one credit over, thats without including the 68 credits for nursing :S
Is there anywhere that we can use a calculator? I wasn't a USF student previously so I am interested to see how this will impact me.
Edit: OK so I found the "excess hours" calculator, but wondering if this won't be accurate until we actually register for courses...
You can check through OASIS or Degreeworks, the latter is easiest to access in my opinion.
It's a link with a bunch of ***** . Under the first check-marked section, after all the SAT/ACT/AP scores.
If you check through Oasis, it's under the "Student" Tab, then "Registration", then "Excess Hours Student Counter"

I found that section and it just led me back to the calculator I was looking at before. It only lets me select Spring 2017, at which point I wasn't taking classes at USF (and also the next 2 semesters).
It looks like I have 122 credits that transferred to USF from my previous degree.
I feel dumb not knowing this, but all of us likely have 120+ credit hours since we all have previous degrees. Maybe I'll call the financial aid office, the page is a little confusing. Does this mean I will have to essentially pay double tuition?...
No, I don't believe its double, just an extra fee per credit along with the regular price.
I spoke to an adviser about two weeks, she said I couldn't do anything about the excess hours until after we were accepted.
I sent her an email, letting her know that I was, she said to contact our new academic adviser, Maikelyn Lopez.
I believe second degree for nursing gets 180 credit hours before the surcharge applies. Most of us have around 120 credit hours (since we all have bachelor degrees) and the nursing program is 60 something credits. So you are only paying a surcharge on that difference. I think when I calculated mine I would have 187 credits total so I am only paying the surcharge for 7 of them. I imagine most of your numbers would be similar to that!

Hey! Did you graduate from FSU? I am a FSU grad :) I live in Jax, so I will be looking for places to live in Tampa. I don't know the area well, but I have already been doing some research on apartments close to campus. So exciting!
