Use Bsn After Your Name

Published

Hey guys I had a question

Do you have BSN after your name on your name tag? My work only puts RN also when you sign your name do you put BSN or just RN?

Hi, IMHO....bottom line is ...RN is RN. Patients can get so confused and could probably care less your educational level...if so, they will ask you. The few docs I see with a bunch of mumbo-jumbo (joe blow MD,PA,FAAC,)after their names on their labcoats get no more or less respect from nurses or patients...they just want to see MD or DO.

I once saw an LVN, with BSN and MS after their name, got into a discussion with this person to find out they did have BSN from another country, MS in anthropology...so what the heck does the patient get from this.LVN,BSN,MS.....okay an educated LVN, but still an LVN? Yes, I know we earn the crediatials, we also earn good credit score at the bank, work reputation and salary..do we wear those too?

My name is in fairly large font and the rest is somewhat small. I like having BSN on there because I'm proud of what I've acomplished. Also, just look at how much they cram onto one line! (our badges are vertical) I think this is part of the problem of why pts don't know who's a nurse and who's an aide, etc etc! The title is lost in all that! I think they should write NURSE fairly large and then put the alphabet soup small. We use computer charting and my title shows up as RN only. When I sign my name I sign RN. I don't sign RN on anything else unless I'm on autopilot!

ADNs and Diploma nurses tend not to have their degree initials on their name badge, though some do. Also, not all of our BSNs have BSN on theirs. Seems to be a matter of choice.

even if I get my MSN or PhD one day, my last name will stay off my name tag, except for an initial, UNLESS I am out of hospital nursing. Too many nutcases I come across in OB.

i have bsn on my name tag, but do not sign it all the time. too many damn letters, and i usually don't have the time! :rotfl: but, on the nametag, i'd definitely do it. you've earned it, and recognition for a degree and/or a certification is something i'd have on my nametag.

CRNA, DNSc - oops - I didn't make myself clear...what I meant is that my MSN would REPLACE the BSN, so it would be: Judi, RN, MSN, CEN...thanks for the opportunity to clear that up!

BTW...I have several friends doing the CRNA course at Bradley University in Peoria and they just started with the DNSc - and it is richly deserved. For their masters program (CRNA) - they have many more hours than I did for my MSN. Have a nice day..judi

I have a BS in Civil engineering and am a licensed professional engineer. Once I get my RN, will I be an BSCE PE RN? (Just joking.....) Honestly, the RN after my name will mean far more to me than the PE!

while i wouldn't mind having my bsn on my nametag (they don't ask....if they did, my last name certainly wouldn't be on it!!), there is no way i'm signing the extra letters behind my signature! there may be only three of them, but i have a fairly long last name and sometimes even signing the "rn" feels taxing.

am i really that lazy?
