USC (Oct 2012) New Grad Program

does anyone plan on applying to the program?

in the original post on this i mentioned:

i just left the nursing career fair at the convention center in los angeles and met with one of their nurse recruiters.

the next versant program begins october 2012.

applications will be accepted (june 1-14, 2012).

apply through the usc jobs website at www.usc.edu/jobs. look for "new graduate" in the job title.

fyi- the program requirements are:

eligible applicants must have less than one year of acute care hospital experience as a licensed rn. a bsn is strongly preferred. the program requires a 2 year commitment.

However, I should add that I too have heard of people getting hired already..not just interview call or emails, but full on hired.

I called Friday and was told they are beginning to set up interviews, will continue calling people into next week, and those not selected will receive an email (the same thing everyone else has said). I'm a little bummed. I submitted my app the very first day the position was posted, had 4 rec letters instead of 2, and even had regular correspondence with one recruiter for two weeks about my materials. #discouraged

Oh man, how did you hear about that, do you have any idea how many positions were already given away? That's crazy, did they have secret interviews or something with only some candidates...?

Probably hired internals first, no secret interviews, it's just like Kaiser and other hospitals. Due to either union rules or their own employment policies, they have to post up job openings for every section from maintainence needs to new grads to experienced nurses to clerks, and if the current pool of internal applicants don't fit their needs, then the externals are considered.

A few people on the CA New Grad RN facebook page have commented that they have been called for an interview or received an email about an interview- One person said they thought the interviews would be going from August 27- Sept 7

Yeah I got the email that said they would call me for an interview, but no word yet... has anyone else been called?

So I'm thinking I'm realistically out of the running if I haven't heard anything by now? I haven't technically received a rejection email but I haven't received any calls or emails regarding interviews and given that I believe the program starts in early october which is right around the corner, i'm thinking i would have been contacted last week or so if they were interested. I'm so bummed, I really wanted the chance to interview!

Sad news guys. I just spoke with the recruiter from USC. She said that they have already picked the people that they will be interviewing.

The process is the following:

They look at your GPA + the school you graduated from.

If they can't find enough people from that pool then they start looking at the rest.
