This years thread for usagpan applicants to share information and ask questions
Congrats ICURN326! I am ecstatic to receive the acceptance letter for USAGPAN/Baylor too.
Per email with our VA Liaison, "As Dr. Reedy stated during your interview, the decision regarding the number of VA EISP USAGPAN positions to be funded is often not released until later in the fall. Therefore, notification by Baylor regarding approval for admission will likely be extended to a greater number of applicants in relationship to the number of positions that will actually approved by the VA."
What happens when six candidates accepts the offer and applies for the VA EISP but it turns out that the budget only allows four spots? How does USAGPAN/VA determine who gets the coveted four slots?
I applied as a dual applicant as both a civilian and through the VA. Got the acceptance letter from Baylor and was told by my recruiter that I have been selected by the Army. Obviously, we're still waiting for selection results from the VA... The fiscal year starts Oct 1st, so I imagine we won't hear from the VA until sometime after that.
I'm honestly still not sure which route I would select if accepted to both, my wife and I are trying to weigh the pros and cons of each, but with DCC likely starting sometime in Nov/Dec, not knowing until sometime in Oct is going to give me very little time to get a lot figured out... All this cortisol is not good for my cholesterol, haha.
I have about 275 hours of leave that I need to use before I head out to DCC in January that I would like to use before I head off to DCC. I plan on going down to San Antonio a little early to look for housing with the family. From what I hear the "better" areas in SA are in the north and east. Between now and DCC, I plan on getting some good boots broken in, getting a few uniforms in the correct size before I get there (Ft. Sill is a training facility, so they run short on many of the common sizes). Refamiliarizing myself with land nav, and yes, I plan on doing one last hurrah trip. Looking forward to meeting you all in a few short months!
Current student from USAGPAN FY22, best recommendation I can give you is to enjoy your time off now. Take vacations, spend time with your family, enjoy yourselves. Phase I is rigorous and requires substantial time and energy. ICURN326--if the wedding is important to you it is likely you will be able to make time to attend, but it will require effort to remain ahead and classes and coordination with cadre for the leave to be approved. Leave is generally only approved for weekends and outside of extraneous, emergency situations no plans should include missing any Program of Instruction (POI). We had nearly a month of time to settle in upon arriving where our only real commitment was signing in every morning before taking care of affairs at home, so do keep that in mind. That said, I did fly down about three weeks prior to my report date to house search, only because I wasn't willing to sign a lease without seeing a place first. You should all be assigned one of us as your sponsor in the coming months to answer any individual questions you might have. Congratulations on getting in! The program and instructors are fantastic!

Thank you, you'll do great too. Let's hope we both get the coveted VA spot. Ahh, you picked a great time for an interview...I had chosen the earliest spot. 0600 to 0645 in PST. Why? Cause, why not?
