USAGPAN 2018

I noticed someone had started a thread to rally up nurses applying to the USAGPAN class starting this year so I thought I'd do the same for next year's class! I'll be speaking with a recruiter soon, but I hope to begin the application process very soon! I have about 2 years of critical care experience, just took my GRE and I'm scheduled to take my CCRN next month. I'll be doing that biochem class sometimes before June as well. Anyone else out there applying for next year's Army Nurse Anesthesia Program?

How cool! Great video.

Great video. Thank you! Is anyone of you all a travel nurse or know someone who was a travel nurse and got into the program? I'm trying to decide if I should go back to my permanent full-time job for a letter of recommendation in the near future (my former manager left the unit). Not sure how it'll work with traveling nurses and their letters of recommendation from the managers. Thanks!

For those that have already applied, how long was your Statement of Purpose/ Motivational statements? I understand the Army's should be 1 page. Did you use the same one for both? Thanks!

Hi Everyone!

I'm a SICU RN from sunny San Diego, CA! I always wanted to be a CRNA and didn't really realize there was this military route until a friend of mine was working on his application last year and just began the summer 2017 class this week. I'm in the 'still have to take my GRE and complete application paperwork' boat. But at least my GRE is scheduled for July 19 and the deadline for non-military is Sept.1. I'm crossing my fingers that goes well... Relearning high school math after all these years is rough! ;P Yea, my recruiter doesn't really want to hear from me also until I get my GRE done:/ Maybe I need to push them to help me get the rest in order to let them know I am actually serious about this. After that just gonna complete my application paperwork, etc. and work on all the fitness requirements... I have an O-Chem background - just hope my lack of biochem isn't a hinderance;/ Did anyone make a facebook group yet? I know the 2017 class did just to help each other out if needed/ keep in contact with each other. -Jennifer

Hey gang! I hope to join you all as well at USAGPAN in 2018. I've been with the VA for 5 years up in Minneapolis as a nursing assistant for 2.5yrs and an RN up until the present with the last two years in our combined MICU/SICU. I'm applying as a civilian for the VA and just finished sending my transcripts to NEU. Now we wait! Hope all is well!

You're right, the army Motivation statement should be up to one page. The NU does not specify the length or the formatting of the statement so mine was approx 1.75 pages, font 12 with 1.5 spacing between lines. Both my statements were very similar. I focused more on the anesthesia as a career for the NU and more on the military and service for the Army statement.

Hey everyone!

Finished my biochem class and knocked out the CCRN exam this past week. I'm scheduled for a cardiology consult on Monday (I'm 40, require an ECG by default.) Should be my last hurdle to clear MEPS. How's everyone else progressing?

Specializes in ICU-CCRN, MSN, CNM, APRN.

I just started the program in June as a direct commission. If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer them! It has been amazing so far! Also...don't waste money on expensive biochem. I took an online intro to organic and biochem 3 credit course from Iowa central. Under distance learning and flex net course. Cost $300ish and was accepted no problem!!

You can also do your physical at a military clinic and bypass MEPS entirely!!!! I did mine at Fort Drum! Extremely easy! One visit and done in 1.5 hours start to finish!!

Yep, I did my commissioning physical at the old Walter Reed in the internal medicine clinic. My recruiter arranged it.

Thanks for providing the info and congrats on starting the program. I was wondering when did you find out about being accepted to the program. Also, once accepted, what is the process with the BOLC and pre-BOLC, ie what's the location, the length and exactly what did you do/learn during that time. Again, thanks!
