USAGPAN 2018

I noticed someone had started a thread to rally up nurses applying to the USAGPAN class starting this year so I thought I'd do the same for next year's class! I'll be speaking with a recruiter soon, but I hope to begin the application process very soon! I have about 2 years of critical care experience, just took my GRE and I'm scheduled to take my CCRN next month. I'll be doing that biochem class sometimes before June as well. Anyone else out there applying for next year's Army Nurse Anesthesia Program?

Specializes in Adult Critical Care.

Be advised that the cap on credited experience constantly changes based on the need for experienced nurses. Nurses have entered as O-3s/Captains without MSNs in the past. You may find that next year they do again.

The recruiter I talked to said I would need to be accepted by NEU before talking to me. Is that correct? From reading all the threads it sounds like you have to have all the direct accession paperwork near completion by the time they accepted you. You seem like the only person on this thread with direct accession. I'm just curious if I need to get on a recruiter. I will be submitting my NEU application soon and would like to know if I need to be doing other things! Thanks in advance for your help!

I am direct accession also. I first meet with my recruiter and started my army application in early January 2017, went to MEPS in early February, had my phase 2 interview in mid- April and submitted my Norheastern application in late April. My army accession application has been submitted to board in June. If you're applying for admission in 2018 you should absolutely be in the process working on your army application. It sounds like your recruiter may not be familiar with the process. It is not true at all that you have to submit your NEU application before starting on your army application. In fact there's so much paperwork involved with the army application that at this point you should be starting ASAP. Good luck.

The letters of recommendation are formal letters.

Thanks for the reply and shedding some light on DCC/pre-BOLC. My healthcare recruiter mentioned Fort Sill but I had no idea what he was talking about... :) Can we choose whether to do the DCC and BOLC prior to starting at USAGPAN or after graduation?

You don't get a choice as to when you complete DCC and BOLC. You'll go before you start classes, unless there is an issue with not getting orders in time (like what happened this year). I'm actually a spouse of someone in phase 1 now, but I don't know of any reason you'd want to wait. You could up have to do DCC/BOLC while enroute to your first duty station after graduation. That could make PCSing a mess, especially with a family. Also, without BOLC, there's a chance you won't be eligible for promotions, since BOLC is a required course.

Whew! It's been a busy week! I just finished my MEPS appointment. Not terrible at all. Unfortunately my astigmatism may be a problem. I will be going to an eye doctor in a few weeks. Hopefully, its just another hoop to jump through and I'll have no issues. Also, finally conquered the GRE! What a relief! Now for those who have not taken the GRE, I strongly suggest Magoosh.com. Seriously. I was very satisfied with my score (Math 157, Verbal 160). My performance may or may not be impressive to you. Regardless, I am certain you will be happy with your test results if you try Magoosh. Magoosh was the least painful option I found to study for the GRE. Cannot say enough good things about it. Also, take your practice tests! ETS offers two free TIMED exams via their software called PowerPrep II. Manhattan also provides one free timed exam.

Side note, Magoosh has not paid me to endorse them. haha I just want to spread any tips I can provide! Phase II will be in the works as soon as I get my GRE essay scores back and I am in the clear with my eye situation. Take care everyone.

I'm also direct accession. I was under the impression that you need the Phase II director's letter of reccomendation for your NEU application anyway. I began working with my recruiter once I took my GRE. So far, I have done my physical and I'm scheduled for my interview next month. Once I finish biochem, I'll be submitting my NEU application.

I used Magoosh, too! I thought it was a great way to study, especially no the go! Congrats on your GRE score!

This post has been very helpful but I have some questions about the program itself. From what Ive read on different forums there are 2 phases of training is you family able to travel with you to either or these locations? Do you receive bah? I will be applying next year and plan on meeting with a recruiter soon but from what I've read they may not offer much assistance because it's so far out

There are 19 Active Duty AY2018 USAGPAN selects. With a class of 35, that leaves 16 direct assessions. From what I am reading, I doubt any of you will have a problem filling those slots. Good luck!

There are 2 phases. Phase 1 at Sam lasts a year and you move on to phase 2 for the next 2 years, which could be another AMC. Your family is authorized to travel with you. You do receive BAH if living off post.

For those of you that have finished MEPs what does it consist of? I've been hearing conflicting information from different sources. Some say they wanted you to do the duck walk others didn't. Can anyone clarify this? Or is it just a plain physical?
