I have been reading through some of your previous questions and now I have a couple of questions of my own. I am currently finishing my Bachelors (four years) in Chicago and am interested in moving to the UK upon graduating and eventually recieving my masters in the UK for midwifery. I have been working for three years as a nursing assistant in Labor and Delivery at Northwestern's Prentice Women's Hospital in Chicago. Any advice on how to accomplish moving to England?

Hi Yoo Jin! I am SO glad I found someone like me! It seems like everyone that wants to work in the UK would rather live in London. I dont know what makes Scotland so special to me. I have done a little research but I am not totally sure about things like the currency used or average temperatures. If anyone who lives or has lived in Scotland could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated! I look forward to talking to you in the future!

I think the only way to get a work permit to work in the UK is as a RN, you need to check the nmc website on international as everything will be there including whether you need work experience

I don't know about the Phils., but if you're coming from the U.S. then you have to register and be deemed qualified before you can obtain a work permit. I think you also must have so many hours of work experience to be considered qualified. I really don't know the exact number, but I'm sure it's on the NMC site.
I dont think there is such a big nursing shortage in Scotland as there is in the rest of UK.
We have a couple of oversea's nurses on my ward and they have had to do 6 months adaptation prior to working as an RN, they do get paid to convert but it is as a lower wage band, one of them posts on here but is away in Philipines
at the moment when she returns I will ask her to post some advice to potential UK nurses.
