New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand
Guys, one quick question: For those who sent their applications to AHPRA, which state did you send it? Should it be in ACT, or any state will do? It says in there that you should send it IN YOUR CAPITAL CITY, but since were still in the phils... Thanks!

Questions about board examination and review
It is given twice a year. June and December. Costs 1000 plus. Before the 2002 Nurse Law amends, a student can challenge the exams thrice. In the event he did not get through the passing rate, he would take a refresher course. At present, one can sit for it unlimited times.

where CAN I FIND A JOB
hey guys, why not try to work in a different setting? Remember when we were still students? We were once taught that there are other areas in nursing. Industrial, school, clinic, rural health etc. Maybe I can share some insights with you... Industrial - In the jobstreet website, they usually post vacant positions on Corporate Clinic setting. Call centers, plants, factories.. Employees in these areas need to see a health care provider once in a while, right? Not to mention the above average paycheck, you still get to practice nursing knowledge on this. Call centers like VXI in Makati, Convergys, ACS, Telus... More often than not, you can see their posts online and you dont even have to get up your seat to schedule for an initial interview. Just make a good resume and hit apply. Clinic - Ever heard of HMO's? That industry is quite persistent and I have to say they are really in that direction. Usually nurses do pre employment check up for patients, or perform some diagnostic procedures like Ultrasound, EKG etc. Intellicare, Maxicare, Caritas, these are just some f the many HMOs in our country. School - This was in the news the other day. The headline read, the ratio was 100,000 pupils to a nurse. Try giving out your resume in your local public or private school. Maybe they're in need of one. Rural - Aside form the much talked about NARS program, we can still try in the local municipality. My advise... don't just settle for the "hiring" companies. Since we're pushing for it, pick up the newspaper, look for companies that you think, needs a nurse. Then use your landline phone and give them a call. You'll be surprised how much feed back you will get from them. I think this route is much better than doing paid volunteer job at a hospital with no SALARY and no employment thereafter. Fifteen or so years of education... Don't you think it's about time to reap our fruits?

Volunteer Nurse
I once registered as a volunteer nurse for a fee too, here in my province. I was psyched to start my first shift, but I caved in the afternoon. I never went back and fortunately I was able to refund my money. Dont get me wrong guys, it is not bad to volunteer, but for a fee? I mean Id go there everyday spending my parents money for the bus fare, lunch and other stuff Not to mention the training fee that came from my own pocket, isn't that a little too much already? AFter all of that, you get to sit in the couch again because there wereabsolutey no promise of paid employment after that. I was feeling so morose, underappreciated and degraded that whole 8 hour shift. I feel my feet almost dragging me out the exit and never to come back again. My hands trembled while I wrote at the patient's chart. I was greatly relieved when the shift ended and went home with a smile, no, a grin on my face.

Retake test failed (Batch June 2006), question (?)
Hi Im a June '06 passer, wrote the exams (all of it) in December 07. It is horribly hard to find a job with that license here in the Philippines. Though its made clear by the Professional Regulation Commission that the 2006 license (no retake or failed partial retake) is valid, hospitals are quite picky. It was a good decision for me to take the full exams again. If not for that, I wouldnt be able to land a job in Alberta. My batchmates bound to Canada who were partial retakers had to submit a DOLE document indicating they had a partial retake. I suggest to your friend to write the exams again. There are a lot of updates now, including Community Health, Psych and Prof AD. Best of 'Luck!

difference between "board certificate" and Certificate of registration"
I think... Certificate of registration - The paper issued by PRC certifying your passage in the NLE. printed in a special paper, the one that looks like a fancy diploma, the one with cursive font written on it. This is the one you paid for together with the Plastic license for 1,050 pesos. Board RATING certificate - Printed in a bond paper, your scores in each tests (Tests 1-5) are indicated. Issued if requested by the professional. 75Pesos. Certificate of PASSING - Printed in bond paper, indicated that you passed the exams. Issued if requested by the professional, 75 pesos.

Questions for Ospital ng Makati..
Heard that OsMak have a lot of internal competition among its employees. All the union and politics.. scheming colleagues and seniors who would do all their might to take you out the program if you don't act right. More drama than a soap opera!

Most Expensive Nursing School in the Philippines?
In my school, the hghest tuition fee they charged us back in '06 was 22,000. Out of 500 graduates, only 20 of us passed the board. Life is fair after all.

I am 4'11, I wear glasses thick as a trunk, I'm 200 lbs and I can't live without my laptop. How can i get in? Crap that, I just don't like the idea of being a military nurse.
