I was just wondering how difficult it is to try to get into canada to practice, i have an associate degree as a registered nurse and have been out of school for three years now and am currently working as an ICU nurse, any feedback or places to contact would be much appreciated :)
Your post is very unclear. You haven't graduated, you haven't passed your national exam, your on your second course. Please clarify your posting.
You could also check with the Canadian Embassy for requirements. But I seem to recall that nurses who train in the Phillipines require extra education once they are landed in Canada before they can work.
Thank you for the reply,i'm asking if there is a chance working abroad after the graduation next year. My first course was Computer Science(undergrad) then i shift to Nursing. Hoping everything was clear. rgrds :)
You need to pass a set of English exams, as well as the Canadian nursing exam, and it will take you approximately two years to get everything done for immigration. It is not something that will happen over night.
Thank you for the reply, i'm just asking if there is a chance for me working abroad immediately after my graduation next year. Because my in-laws told me that it is nice working abroad esp. at Canada. But i know it takes a lot of time before i go there. I'm still reviewing at this moment. rgds :)
I too am an American Nurse looking to travel to Canada and work. I know that there are companies in Canada that assist with the transition for Nurses comming to Canada and they assist with finding jobs...unfortunately..cant remember the name of the one I had spoken with about 3 years ago...Does anyone out there know of a Company that assist American Nurses in Canada?

If you are going to BC I think http://www.healthmatchbc.org helps international nurses.
Fergus,
Thank You very Much for the information...I went to the website and I believe this is exactly what I am looking for...after I fill out all the paperwork, sell My first born child, cross a river of red tape, and walk on water ...I should be able to transfer to work in Canada...(haha)...nahhh...not really that bad...and just what was expected...will be contacting this company and see if they can assist in all the work needed to be done...once again...ty..

Are there RN---> BSN programs in Ontario where a US trained RN with an associates degree can study further and get a Bachelors degree to give the Canadian RN exam.
Alternatively
Is a US RN with a 2 year degree considered equivalent to an Ontario RPN without any further education ? What is the difference between RPN and RN Salaries in Ontario.
Are there RPN --> RN education transition programs ? Are jobs easily available in GTA for qualified RPN's & RN's ? What are the starting salaries like ?
Thanks
