Anyone out there work for Mercy? How does this affect you?I know a lot of you saw Mercy as the friendlier alternative to UPMC. West Penn next?
I hear ya ...
Way too early to tell much of anything.
NRSKarenRN: if you're interested, also see www.post-gazette.com --- several articles over the last few days, pretty good coverage of the many aspects of this announcement, particularly the potential impact on indigent care in Allegheny County, of which Mercy has provided the lion's share.
That is just so sad. I worked at Mercy for many years, it was a great hospital. UPMC is swallowing up all the private hospitals then ruining them. Just so sad.
Just for reference, Mercy Hosp is MILLIONS in debt, and they are the ones who approached UPMC to help rescue them. UPMC did not leverage themselves to 'take over' Mercy.
I'd be interested in hearing which hospitals are worse off since they've aligned with UPMC.
Along with Suburban General Hospital in Bellevue. Earlier this year Mercy Hospital sold off their hospital on the north shore (Mercy Providence Hospital). The only hospital that they are retaining in the area is Mercy Hospital in Jeanette.
I didn't know they sold off Mercy Providence. Who's running it now? What services does it provide?
