I thought I'd start this thread... anyone else applying? App is due this Saturday! I really like the research opportunities that this program offers to its students.
yay I just got my email for an interview (psych specialty). To those who haven't heard - don't lose heart! They have the whole week to get back to us and it sounds like they are not emailing everyone at once. I know waiting is hard, but it doesn't seem like they're getting back to us in any kind of predictive fashion. Is everyone going in person? I think I'm going to have to do a phone interview.
i got the email today saying they want to interview me. needless to say, i had a smile on my face ALL DAY LONG. i'm still shocked. that said, i would love to know how you all plan on paying for bsn/msn if accepted. do they give out financial aid? it's private, and an ivy league - perhaps they have scholarships? any information greatly appreciated! good luck to all! a friend of mine who applied for midwifery also hasn't heard back. I'm applying for women's health care NP, and yes, just got the notification this morning. yee haw :)
also, be sure to fill out your mid-term "report card" if you're still in the midst of pre-reqs, as well as the financial aid applications that are due dec. 15th (tax info, returns, etc - start early. sounds like a lot to collect). :):)
also another quick question: the recommendation from the american association of colleges of nursing to have all advanced practice clinicians (NP's in particular) to have a doctorate is set for 2015 - however it's unclear that this goal will be met nationwide. Does anyone know how UPenn is responding to this recommendation, given that they are a major leader in training advanced practice nurses?
hey mz marit-- I had wondered about the NP/ DNP issue as well. It's interesting that schools seem to vary in their approach to this. From talking to folks at Penn, they found it unlikely that the 2015 transition requiring NPs to be trained at the doctorate level will be implemented on schedule. Their rationale for not introducing a DNP program yet (while many other schools have moved ahead with this) is they want to ensure any program they introduce is well thought out and constructed, and don't want to rush into it while there are so many uncertainties still. For example, currently schools are implementing dnp programs without any true standardization of the curriculum. Penn's point is they want to wait until the process and guidelines are clearer and better established before beginning new programs. They emphasized however that should the change occur, they would ensure their programs adapted to meet the needs of students. Sounded reasonable to me!
