UPenn BSN/MSN 2012

I thought I'd start this thread... anyone else applying? App is due this Saturday! I really like the research opportunities that this program offers to its students.

Sorry to hear that NJ :( best of luck applying elsewhere. Did they give you any reasons or just flat out no?

Haven't heard anything yet on my application...

Lovemenursing, they only said that the applicant pool was very competitive this year. It was the electronic version of the no thank you letter. They said that I can call or email for more info about the decision. I may do this, in case I reapply next time. Good luck to you!

hey traditional MSN applicants-- did you all apply for FNP? I applied PNP but I haven't heard anything....yikes lol do you know if they only take 20 applicants for each program? Thanks!

Haven't heard anything yet...I guess it depends on the specialty since other folks have heard back earlier...doing well to keep on the willpower not to call and ask :) I think it's hard because we don't really have a time frame of which to work with as the website says we would hear between the due date and the notification date, but I haven't been able to find any notification dates for the MSN program--has anyone else found this?

i got an email after i sent in my application saying that the review board would now look at it. They said it could take 4-6 weeks before i hear anything about an interview or anything. Don't know if you got the same one.

I did get that about 2.5 months ago...if they're judging based on April 1st, then that'd be about May 15 or so. Okay, only about three more weeks! Best of luck to you!

Hi all,

I am interested in applying to UPenn's BSN or MSN programs. I am currently in an RN program at a community college. I also have a non-nursing bachelor's degree from Rutgers. My Rutgers GPA is a very low 2.0 mainly because I took and failed some science courses while there. Since then, I have been employed as a Cardiac Tech in a large hospital in NJ and found the Nursing field to be a more suitable career for me. I am now doing quite well in the program (as of now maintaining a B average, hoping to bring it up to an A). Does anyone know if this would make me competitive enough, overall, to apply to the program? Does the Master's program accept applications from those who have a non-nursing bachelor's degree along with an RN associate's degree?

Any other insights would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

I guess I'm ignorant...but why would anyone spend $100K for a BSN? Or is it a BSN/MSN? It just doesn't seem like a good ROI?

Specializes in ICU/CCU, PICU.

I think they will entertain a non-BSN degree but you need to be AMAZING. But more importantly the low GPA is concerning to me. B grades are nothing special.

I did not get into UPenn but they offered me a chance. BSN GPA-3.3. Science GPA 3.83. Numerous community and international health volunteering, writing a book and nailed the interview. They offered me a deal since I was the right candidate for community efforts and where I want to take my career, but a 3.3 BSN was too low for them. The deal was not something that was mentioned anywhere on their website but I'm a great go-getter. After I got my rejection, I called and spoke with them about what I could do to get into their program. The person (won't give out contacts) actually said "we were hoping to hear from you!". The deal was if I got a B or higher in their graduate Patho course, I would be accepted in their ACNP program. Well, I completely messed up my chances and got a B-. I'm totally kicking myself in the behind because I know what I did wrong - I missed 1 online quiz because I misread the holiday (Thanksgiving) schedule wrong. There's no makeups. Even if I took the quiz and got a 40 on it, I would be a fully enrolled UPenn student...I'm so stupid and hate myself for that mistake to this day.

So do the best you can because you never know if that is your 1 chance!

Are those numbers just tuition or do they include other expenses? Penn is actually quite a bit more expensive than that. Granted, the information they sent me included living costs, books, meals, etc. on top of tuition... but it was well over 100k for the BSN. They offered me a generous grant which brought down the price, somewhat. Comparing that to 70k total for UCSF's first year (includes housing, etc.), makes me queasy!

hello, i was wondering how much aid you got. I am applying for 2014 but the 100k tuition alone scares me.

Hi all,

I have an interview for the PMHNP BSN/MSN program tomorrow. What were some of the questions you were asked when you interviewed? Thanks!
