  1. It's maddening to see NPs get paid so little down in the south and have such restrictive authority. For pete's sake, Florida NPs only this past year were allowed to prescribe narcotics! For someone that works with children post-op, I can't imagine not being allowed to order morphine or fentanyl for my patient. Education not being up to snuff in every institution. Lack of real world business minded classes in school (to be fair, they don't do this in med school either).
  2. Thanks for all of your insight, everyone. I know I'll stay _at least_ two years, probably more. I stayed at my RN job for 5+ years (switched departments about halfway through, but stayed in the same hospital), so I'm not a job hopper. Blue devil, the nature of my job is that it is acute care and the patient stay is usually 1 week or less. Of course, there are frequent fliers, but there are a dozen or so PNPs hired for this type of job, so the continuity of care is not quite the same as out-patient. But I see your point and yes, I don't want to be a burden in terms of recruitment and training costs.
  3. I'm a new grad PNP and accepted a job last week. I'm excited to get my career started, although the location isn't where I'd like to be forever. My orientation is about 2-3 months in a hospital setting. I'm hoping that once I get some experience I can move back to my home state, but I certainly want to "give" my employer a decent amount of time to them since they did hire me as a new grad. Do you guys think 2 years post orientation is good enough? Or should I go longer?
  4. I did get that about 2.5 months ago...if they're judging based on April 1st, then that'd be about May 15 or so. Okay, only about three more weeks! Best of luck to you!
  5. Haven't heard anything yet...I guess it depends on the specialty since other folks have heard back earlier...doing well to keep on the willpower not to call and ask :) I think it's hard because we don't really have a time frame of which to work with as the website says we would hear between the due date and the notification date, but I haven't been able to find any notification dates for the MSN program--has anyone else found this?
  6. Sorry to hear that NJ best of luck applying elsewhere. Did they give you any reasons or just flat out no? Haven't heard anything yet on my application...
  7. Good to know NJ, I haven't heard anything yet about interviews. Hopefully just 2 more weeks then!
  8. Nope, nothing yet. A few weeks ago I got that my application was officially in review and I think I have a few more weeks before I hear from them... Have you heard anything? I keep checking my online status and my mail box every day though :) good luck!!
  9. I don't know if this helps, but my hubby is in grad school right now and we did end up filing the prior year fafsa for his summer classes at the start of the program as they told us. Because if we didn't, we wouldn't have much funding for the next year's summer! It was great too because we qualified for subsidized loans for those classes... Still waiting to hear back on my application! But at least I did hear from them that my application is officially in "review" and it should another few weeks...
  10. Thanks guys, I really appreciate it! As do future applicants, I'm sure :) One last question if you don't mind: How did you get notified for an interview? Via e-mail or regular mail? My application is still in review, so I'm not sure how they will contact me...
  11. Congratulations everyone! As someone who is hoping to hear back soon and get an interview (applied for MSN)...would anyone mind telling me what kinds of questions they were asked at the interview? I know I'll probably get somewhat different questions since I'm traditional MSN, but anything would helpful!
  12. Good luck to all of you waiting for the ABSN decision! I think I still have a few more weeks before I hear something...
  13. Very fascinating. I didn't realize there was so much differences in training!
  14. Hi folks, good luck to everyone! I'm a traditional applicant since I already have a BSN, but wanted to ask: how do you know if the school received your transcripts? I can't find it anywhere...
  15. Hey thanks so much for the info! I can't decide whether I want to do PNP or NNP and I know UNMC only does PNP, but I know that Creighton does both... I don't see any postings for NICU in Nebraska except for Creighton right now, but I will keep my eyes open! Do you know if they hire at certain times of the year or is it just on an as-needed basis?
