I'm sooo anxious to find out what schedule I'll end up with along with the campus that I'll be attending. I'm praying for Western campus because it's closest to me...second choice is Northwestern. I think I would have an anxiety attack if I had to drive to the Eastern campus.
I took CPR today at the Downriver campus and for the first time ever, I feel like I really learned the steps and I enjoyed it! I called my husband on the phone almost wishing that I would have an opportunity to perform it on someone. Weird, huh??
I have my physical and get my shots taken care of on Monday and Tuesday, so I'll have everything done. I'm sooo excited! Nervous still about nursing school...especially since I have to take Medical Math and Nutrition with the first semester, but I'll only be working two days a week, so I'll have time to study and complete my assignments.
Anybody else anxious?? Is everyone done with the orientation requirements?? Please share...

We ALL get anxious! It sounds like you are really prepared. This 1st term is a doozy. Get ready for plenty of anxiety attacks...lol. I think it's part of the training!
I don't think I could have handled Math & Nutrition in addition to the NUR classes and NO WAY could I have done so & carry a job. Although some do. Fortunately, I was able to start in the spring so I had the summer terms to take those.
Really, good luck to you. Just whatever you do, don't fall behind. Stay focused & stay positive.
When is your lottery?

Our lottery is on July 31. But the orientation begins on July 30.
I am excited and anxious at the same time but I am enjoying this journey. I am so happy and looking forward to this program beginning in August, I know that it is not easy because my sister graduated the program in 2005 but I know that it is well worth the effort and time involved.
I am hoping for Northwest first, then Eastern and finally the Western.

I know it's going to be mad crazy...especially since I have the co-reqs, but I'm just going to take it a week at a time and keep going no matter what. I have a job where I can study and do homework with no problems, so as long as I follow my weekly schedule and don't get behind, I'll be fine. Thankfully, I don't have any children (unless you count my husband, but he's old enough to fiend for himself LOL). I have the support of my whole family and friends and crazy faith in myself, so I'll be just fine. I am so ready to conquer this first semester!
Well hopefully, if we don't get what we want we'll be able to find somebody to switch with. It was my understanding that we could as long as we did it on the same day and got it approved. GOOD LUCK!

I am also very excited to go to orientation! I just gave notice at my job that I will be going to part time hours and most likely working a different schedule. I am a little nervous but mostly excited. Does anyone know exactly what takes place at orientation? Any tips from those who have been there? I have been given a few good ones, like to bring money for badges.
I know they will probably talk about the program and do the lottery...I'm hoping for the Western campus because it's closest to my house.
I am going to have my physical this week. I got certified for CPR 2 weeks ago. I have to get the TB test, and my last HEP B shot isn't due until August 20th, so I'm hoping that won't be a problem. Other than that, I am just patiently waiting, slowly collecting "school supplies".
Hiya DaMomma! I am so ready for pharm to be over. My final is Thursday! I've got lifespan until the 13th--Online--and it's pretty demanding. It will be great to only have to deal with one class. I'll have all my co-req's done!
I took my pharm cap today. I will be taking that sometime again. There's tons of math (which I sure need to study) + OB & Peds which we haven't had yet. (That's my excuse & I'm stickin' to it!) Thank goodness I've got that portfolio done. We were told to have that completed for the last day of clinicals last term. So, while you do your portfolio, I'll be studying math & then on to MS II! Yep, I think that leaves us about 2 days off, we deserve it, that's for sure! Here's to us! (I'm almost too tired for all this dancing!)

I'm excited for you too! Congratz!
On day one, they divide you up into a few groups & you go to a few different classrooms together & get several pep talks & congratz & different people explain different things. Ex: One of the math tutors is one classroom & tells you the resources available. ALL of them stress organizing your life NOW. How you better start explaining to your family that they are on hold for 2 years. Things like that. You'll listen & you think understand what they are saying but you won't really get it, until you're in the midst of your new journey. But BELIEVE THEM! Burger King is just behind the campus (I think it's still there). Or bring food. There's not much there anymore.
The next day, Yes, bring money for badges & name tags as well. I suggest 2 (one to keep in the car). They've also got a display of uniforms, steths, penlights, (their tape measure is cool).
And Get ready for a long, UNORGANIZED day (all the while they are telling YOU it's important to get organized). Just have patience, hopefully it will go smoother for you guys, but it's not like last term was their first go around at this.
I must say our lottery this term went quite smooth.
And then when you get your classes, make sure you get yourself a devoted, POSITIVE partner. Someone who wants this even more than you do. One that wants to practice all these techniques you'll be learning. She/he, in my opinion, will be your most important asset. You are going to be learning so much so fast. Those A&P classes were a breeze compared to this!
I also suggest investing in a digital recorder--one you can download onto your computer. so far, my instructors have had no problem with being recorded. (knock on wood)
And I suggest getting separate book bags. One w/rollers for IGGY (It's Heavy!) & a couple other cheap ones for your other classes. It's too darn hard to switch books back & forth & you're bound to forget something--guaranteed. I also got a cheap make-up bag to stuff my name tag, pens, penlight, steth, hosp id, tape measure, etc into during clinicals. It makes things very easy to find in the am!
Lastly, stay postive. You can do it. Look how hard you've worked so far. Avoid negativity & negative people. You won't have time for it.
I took it one week at a time at first, but to be honest, I take it one EXAM at a time today. You really have to learn to organize & set priorities.
Hope this helps & have fun at orientation! Good Luck!
