Pray for Me
I'll pray for you too. Just treat your patient like he or she is a close friend or family member. Chat with them all the while you are doing your skills--while explaining what you are doing. If you catch yourself forgetting something, just back up & do what you need to do. Safety & privacy are the biggies. And always ask your patient for to assist you in doing the skill. You'll do fine. It's really a piece of cake! The hard part is getting past the nerves. Good luck!

Waiting List 4 Wcc,occ, hfcc And Schoolcraft.
WCCCD has no waiting list. It goes by GPA of pre-reqs. Less $$$, Less time, & approximately $0.30 per hr pay difference. I could be mistaken but that's what I've been told. You can always go for the BSN or further later. I hope that helps.

WCCCD discouraged
Of course, apply. But if you are really concerned about your GPA, take micro over. At the info meeting, I remember hearing: "If you get a "C" in one of the sciences, you probably want to take it over." Check the other threads or call the NUR office & ask what the cut-off GPA was this term & that will give you a better idea. If you take the micro again this fall, you will have a better chance to be in next fall. And look at the bright side--you can start working on your co-reqs. Good luck!

NWLB is crap
I just talked to someone who still works at GM & was given $5000 for some class to learn how to give massages. Amazing, isn't it? I also just called Workfirst myself because I am concerned about all the fees & such after I graduate with my ADN in December. This will disqualify me for financial aid unless I continue to take classes (I need a break!). This lady told me to get down there ASAP, register for unemployment services, & get on the list. She said I would be there a while because there are so many people applying for the unemployment extentions & all. (So, I'll study in the office...lol.) She said she was sure they could help me with these testing/review class fees & one optimistic thing she said was that due to me having classes at who knows what hours, an individual orientation could be set up. Well, it all sounds good. We shall see. I'll be down there next Tuesday & I'll keep yous posted.

Please Help!!!!!
$28K in school loans is getting screwed over--LPN or RN. Don't forget, those loans are not the low interest loans offered through the CCs. I agree, go the community college route. What if you want to continue your education? You're going to want/need credits that transfer. Again, think VERY carefully before you sign the umpteen million forms they will get you to sign. Good luck!

Reapplying to WCCCCD
Hi, I have to add something else too. I went into the NUR office just last week. I was one of the students fortunate enough to get the MI nursing scholarship. I had applied around Thanksgiving last year. Now a new year is upon me so I inquired whether I had to reapply for this next term or what. The DEAN told me NO, that was not necessary. The very next day I got a form in the mail which I have to fill out & turn in so that I will qualify for the scholarship this year. (Carol was not in the office.) So, again... Take NO word as the final answer. (Form is filled out & back at the office) Now I pray they don't lose it!

Reapplying to WCCCCD
Hi, I was going to respond a few days ago. I agree w/everything SerenityRN2b2010 said. I'm sure the NUR office is in turmoil because of the move. If it was ME in your position, I would go & get my application packet & tell them I will turn it in myself at the next application meeting. Things tend to get lost (take it from me--a 4th term student). And as Serenity said, NEVER, EVER, accept the 1st answer as truth. Also, talk to CAROL--the NUR office secretary & NO ONE else. One person doesn't know what the other is doing around there. It's really a trip! Good luck to you.

Clinical sites - any opinions?
I met 2 "Nice" nurses. One of which was actually helpful. And one very tall, very dark, & very handsome doc! :)

Clinical sites - any opinions?
Hi, I did my OB rotation at Hutzel. I loved it down there. They provide student parking & a shuttle service. It's not too far but I was on the day shift & had to be there 1/2 hr. early so that I'd make it to the floor on time. There's a guard at the lot & lots of students so safety isn't an issue. This shuttle stops at all the hospitals in the area (Det. Rec, Children's, Kresge Eye Institute) & I think the Hutzel/Harper stop is the last. We also had to wait after clinicals, up to 1/2 hr, because our clinicals ended during the shuttle drivers' lunch time. Many students decided to pay to park ($2.50) in the structure although I think they have put a stop to that. It was a pain, but hey, it was only 7 wks.

HFCC or WCCCD????
hi, the nursing classes are at the western campus & the northwest campus. there used to be some at the eastern campus but i have no idea where that is or if that is still an option. the other co-reqs (path, nutrition, eng, soc) can be taken at any campus that offers them & some are offered online. as long as you are ahead of the game, you don't have to take the classes w/the nursing classes. since i didn't make the fall admissions, i made sure i took the classes required during the 1st nur term. i made sure i did them in the order the program advised. if you get to a term in nur & say pharm is required & you have not taken it by that time, you will have to take it with. therefore, my summers were also co-req terms so i could stay ahead. hospital clinicals are done at hfmain, wyandotte, heritage, southshore, st. joe's, children's, harper, karmonos, hutzel, sinai-grace, annapolis, det. recieving, walter reuther, circle of life, & i'm sure i've missed a couple. it all depends on where you are in the program--ms1-4 vs peds, psych, ob. good luck!

Happy Letters WCCCD
Hi, Congratz on your acceptance & your acceptance with a glitch...(yes, that's a good way to put it!). What I've learned about the nursing office: This will be one of several "glitches" you will encounter in the nursing office. (I am fortunate to have my seat in the program) The right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. (I am fortunate to have my seat in the program) If it is Tuesday, things are done differently than on Mon, Wed, Thurs or Fri & vice versa. (I am fortunate to have my seat in the program) If you have a question you need answered, do NOT accept the first answer you get. Wait a few days & ask a different person on a different day. Guaranteed: you WILL get a different answer. (I am fortunate to have my seat in the program) Mrs. N is NOT a good source for info of ANY kind. (I am fortunate to have my seat in the program) I've learned to keep my nose in the books, my eye on the prize, & recite my my mantra several times DAILY. (I am fortunate to have my seat in the program). Stay positive & Good luck to all!

HFCC or WCCCD????
From experience: I had to take my Micro in the summer (last pre-req). I too, thought I could apply for fall but could not. I just wanted to say that it really worked out well because it gave me a semester to work on the co-reqs. I managed it so that I didn't have to take another class w/the NUR classes.
