Financial Aid Problems
Yeah, I also tried to go the nwlb program, had everything ready to be told there is no money; that is because the money left once jennifer granholm left office, which sucks! I'm praying that we hear something soon so we can finish up the program.

Financial Aid Problems
Yeah I go to HFCC and that happened to a lot of us in the nursing program. Im going into my 2nd year in the fall and they sent a bunch of us the letters. We all had to appeal it and have the dean of nursing write letters. We are still waiting for the outcome. It really sucks!

What date do you start Nursing school?
i start august 26 and can't wait, been waiting since january actually, had to postpone a couple of times. i'm still very nervouse though and excited! i will be taking fudamentals 120 and 126. i hear its going to be one heck of a ride. so far, i have only purchases a couple of books, test for success, i think and math for meds, oh target has school supplies on sale, so i bought notebooks for .50. also, i already have my uniforms and tried them on, pretty cool, and a perfect fit i might add. most people opted for the pants with the draw strings but i chose the pants with the rubber in th waist and they came in petite sizes, so i love the fit. i think today i will go look for shoes and stethoscope. good luck to everyone, it would be nice to post how everyones first week went.:)

Finally - HFCC
Thanks, but is the pharmacology, like the actual pharm class that we took, so should I brush up on that stuff?
-
Finally - HFCC
Hi all, can anyone elaborate on the pharmacology test in the 1st semester of classes, how hard, can you take it home, etc. Also, what type of questions are on the dosage calculations test; are there any iv therapy questions on it, etc. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!:)

Finally - HFCC
She mentioned books and suggested to get them when they say or come in because if you wait and they run out, they may not have anymore until after class starts and I think reading assignments maybe required on the first day. So as soon as they, I am buying mines. I am excited as well, been waiting a long time. When you have your first meeting, you will get a packet of things to do, it was basically to get us started on our shots and physical, etc.

OU 2nd degree accelerated program Med Math Test Question
Hey Firehawk, I suck at story problems as well. I don't attend OU but I will be attending HFCC this spring and they will be using a book called Meds for Math by Curren, its a great book and it kinda walks you thru everything. I was so nervous about the med math what I did was signed up for a quick session at WCCCD and fortunately they were using the same book as HFCC. It really helped because it gave me a heads up on what to expect, also I now don't have to worry about learning it from scratch along with everything else. The book goes from beginning adding/subtracting/mult/div decimals, etc, all the way to, yes the dreaded iv therapy, drip rates per minute/hr, peds, etc calculations. I suggest finding out what book is used in the program and maybe purchase it ahead of time. It helped me a lot, as I hate and am horrible with story problems. At WCCCD, they only taught one way which is ratio and proportion, not sure how HFCC will do it but I will stick with what I know. I'm so glad I decided to take the class, I will continue to practice until school starts. I hope this helps, good luck!

Finally - HFCC
The semester starts May 11th and ends around August 16th. We go straight thru with no breaks. We graduate August 2011. The meeting started at 1 for us as well, I think it lasted 2 hours. Our next meeting is Monday, March 15th, from 8 - 10, where they will register us. Then we have another orientation meeting April 4th where we go over the student hand book and some other stuff, that meeting is about 4 hours long.

Finally - HFCC
Good luck to you as well, I'm so scared. I have a lot riding on this so I want to make sure and pass every class. At first I was kinda bummed about going straight thru, but the good news is, at least we will be done by end of next summer, sweet! They will also recommend a clinic for you to go to for all your testing, shots, drug, etc. Also, you fill out a form to do a criminal back ground check. They will walk you thru eveything, as she reads the packet, you will follow along. Again, good luck, we can do it!

Finally - HFCC
We already had our 1st meeting last week, an orientation meeting. They gave out packets of information to fill out and all the shots we have to get. We picked our two classes; you get two choices am or pm. Classes are 4 days a week. Monday starting at 9am, tues and wed - labs and thursday class. I chose pm classes, starting at 11am and 1pm. We filled out information for our badges and uniforms. It was very excited. We have another metting next week and they will register us for classes. Hope this helps.

Finally - HFCC
Finally, I have arrived, starting the spring/summer program at HFCC. Taking nsg 120 and 126, anyone have any words of encouragement. I'm so scared. I'm older and hoping I can keep up. Any advice, study habits, exam tidbits, etc. I have so much riding on this.

Math Problem! Procalc...
the way i do is to make a grid. the dr ordered 0.3g and you have on hand 300mg in 5 mL. you have to convert the order into what you have on hand. so the first grid would be 1 gram = 1000mg; then plug in what the dr ordered which is 0.3 g over X mg, because mg is what you are looking for then simply do the math. ___0.3 g = ____1____g x mg 1000 mg x.1 = 0.3 . 1000 1x = 300 divided both sides by one, which cancels out and 300 over 1 is 300, so now your ready for your next grid. Now in this grid, plug in what on hand, which is 300 over 5, and then take the 300 from the first equation and plug it in. __300_mg = __300___mg x mL 5 ML x.300 = 300 . 5 300x = 1500 divide both sides by 300 and the answer is 5ML. Hope this helps.

LPN - Observation/Question
Hope everyone had wonderful Thanksgiving! Question, how come there are so many lpn programs in other areas like Ohio, ie, Toledo Schoof of Practical Nursing, Great Oaks, vocational schools, just to name a few. Where are all the lpn programs in Michigan, not talking community colleges. That kind of stinks, because I would love to do an lpn program first; one that doesn't cost $30,000! Whats up with that!!:angryfire
